Canada gets a lot of 4th place finishes: big difference between a bronze medal and 4th place. You just get a participation ribbon for 4th!
Interestingly, climber who won bronze set world record in his final climb. Faster than either of the gold or silver medalists.
Poor timbing on his part
Surprising result in the 200 metres but another great race.
was awesome race overall. they zoomed camera in on the leaders in last lap and you can follow their faces as they shift in and out of sprint mode and âshit, i gotta manage this barrierâ mode. the WR holder was inattentive about where he was just enough and trail leg did not make it clean and he landed badly. US kid really went for it w that burst at 350 to go
I saw a reddit post about how a sprint race was won by like .005 and with the old starting gun technology thereâs like a .008 difference in when the near lane heard the gun vs. the far lane, due to the speed of sound.
That got me thinking, I realize the distance is the same for the inner lane vs. the outer lane when they start in the staggered formation. But the inner lane has a higher angle of turn vs. the outer lane - is this difference to the runner totally negligible or does the outer lane have a small advantage due to running âstraighterâ during the race? Not sure if I explained that well.
Or maybe itâs the other way around and the inner lane runner has more of a straightaway?
they have speakers in the blocks behind each runner. without those the gaps spanning the distance would be what you said. I think the speakers bring it down to more negligible
I understand your question and it is a reasonable one to ask. I donât have an answer other than the middle lanes are usually considered the preferred lanes.
Lyles ran the 200M with COVID
Upset alert:
Serbia is up by 2 on the US in basketball with <3minutes to play.
If they were running at, say, 200mph and they weighed, say, 3300 pounds, the force in a tight turn would be a lot higher than that in a looser turn. That additional force will wear out their shoes a lot faster, perhaps they would succumb to more leg injuries, not to mention slightly higher g-forces which might affect consciousness.
Source: NASCAR.
That is why NASCAR cards prefer the high line on turns, while Indy cars (1700lbs) cut the corners.
But, runners are not NASCAR cars.
False Alarm. Although I loved that soccer flop attempted at the end by Serbia.
confused by World Record, are these standard set ups?
Speed climbing is a fixed setup. Personally I wish that the Olympics had 3 climbing events rather than combining the 3 disciplines into a single score.
Canadian womenâs beach volleyball team is going for gold tomorrow against Brazil. Going to clear my calendar to watch that!
They have beaches in Canada???
If you ever get to Vancouver, wander down to the ocean beaches near where we live in Kitsilano: they have a Southern California vibe. Miles and miles of powder sand and dozens of volleyball courts. Water is probably warmer than Southern California as it is an inlet from the Pacific and it is pretty well non-stop sunshine from May through September. Having said that, beach volleyball is probably bigger in Toronto on Lake Ontario beaches.
Agreed on having medals for each separate discipline, and could still keep the 3-combo ala AllAround/IndivMedley/-athlon
Saw the match where they beat the US. Solid team. Will be rooting for them
