2024 Paris Olympics

Men’s 1500m
:1st_place_medal: Cole Hocker (USA) in an Olympic and American record 3:27.65
:2nd_place_medal: Josh Kerr (GBR), also under the prior Olympic record
:3rd_place_medal: Yared Nuguse (USA), also under the prior Olympic record and his prior American record, and [I believe] fastest time ever for a 3rd-place finisher in a men’s 1500m

anyone feel bad for the Romanian women after the Floor Exercise appeal

Spain v. Brazil:

After being forced to sit out the semi from the red card vs. Spain, Marta gets one final chance to go out as a champion as her teammates get revenge for that loss.

Very much so. Feels wrong to have the scores appealed.

I think it was the difficulty portion that was appealed wasn’t it? That is an objective determination isn’t it? I would look at that more like appealing a basket that was ruled a 2 when it was actually 3 or vice versa. And they appealed as soon after the score was posted as they could.

She appealed that she twisted far enough for another 180 on one component. The judges initially thought she didn’t (and same in qualifications), but after appeal said yeah she did spin around enough to count it.

So toe barely off the line on the 3 in the first half called a 2 but then in the last minute same situation they appealed? I’m probably OK with that.

But does suck for the other gymnast.

Only a little, I hope, as she was legally beaten by a better athlete.

We could go all Norwegian and start throwing food.

and interestingly, the announcers were commenting on the other woman, who appeared to have a clean routine, showed a .1 deduction.

Saying that if her coaches don’t appeal, that is a bad on them

In non-sports news involving athletes, Serena claims she was denied a table, because when she shows up without a reservation, and there is an empty table and she doesn’t get to sit, it’s racism. Cuz she’s Karen Serena Williams.

Seems Spain is not so indestructible. Bring on that old lady.
USWNT got smart and purged their old ladies, but then they have the depth.
Coincidence, Shirley, that they won elimination matches without her

A Canadian had not won the Olympics hammer throw in the past 112 years. A Canadian woman won it today giving Canada a sweep in that event. Weird.

Some incredibly exciting track finishes today. Men’s 400 metre final worth rewatching.

Scary incident in the 3000 m steeplechase though.

Medal ceremony for team figure skating. USA moved up to gold, Japan up to silver, following long overdue downgrading of Russian team score from doping scandal.

Some sour grapes here as Russia still was awarded the bronze rather than Canada. As usual Canada’s appeal was dismissed. We are the Rodney Dangerfield of athletic competitors.
