And they are a separate venue, with reduced capacity. In the good ol’ days, Track and Field were at the college’s football stadiums. I believe Franklin Field, on UPenn (also the college’s football field), is the largest Track&Field venue in the USA, #65 in capacity in the world. Sad.
Kayak cross is a new event and looks fun. 4 competitors have to negotiate a series of obstacles while in their kayak. Reminds of the show It’s A Knockout (also called Almost Anything Goes).
The launch in that event was wild. 4 kayaks sliding off a cliff simultaneously. Like the BMX start, but at least those riders get to stay on the ground at first.

Men’s pole vault ongoing.
5.95m, and Kendrick (USA) likely has a medal guaranteed. Duplantis (SWE) has jumped 3 times, no misses. Kendrick had a miss at 5.85m, immediately passed and has been clean since. Karalis (GRE) cleared 5.90m, missed on his 1st attempt at 5.95m and passed. Obeina (PHI) cleared 5.90m, but then missed twice at 5.95m and he has to clear on his next attempt at whatever height to avoid falling short on any countback.
So, now people with nothing to do decided to jump on an NBC play-by-play announcer’s incorrect call of that 100m, as if she is the arbiter of sport.
Viewers took to social media to pan Diffey’s mistake, and the call seemed to have been tweaked by NBC in its replay aired in the United States during prime time Sunday to make the error less obvious.
Fuck 'em.
“She”???
Who?
Internet warriors?
Play by play guy?
NBC editors?
Kendrick takes the silver, clearing 5.95m but missing on all 3 attempts at 6.00m. Karalis of Germany has the bronze, going 5.90m and being Obeina from the Phillipines on the countback (Obeina had a miss at 5.80m, Karalis did not).
Duplantis clears 6.10m for the Olympic record, going straight for the world record at 6.25m.

After reading this article, I went back to watch the Preliminary Rounds of the 100m. Some lovely stories and great to see some of the lesser nations compete. Plus, I get to practice my flag recognition for playing WhenTaken.

Wait, Phil Liggett does commentary at the Olympic Games?
I guess that means that he’ll do <= 4 more TDFs. They could just wake him up for the mountain top and sprint finishes, when he gets too old.
I haven’t really paid attention to the US commentary ever since I started streaming GCN. He wasn’t on the team for the NBC Olympics though. But I heard from other commenters in forums that he was still active for UCI races, I guess for one of the US-based services.
I watched some 90s videos with Phil and he looks like a young man. But when I was a kid he looked like an old man to me at the time.
I showed my son recently the LeMond - Fignon time trial, and it blew his mind that Liggett was the commentator.
