What an incredible day of sport today! Swimming was amazing, men’s 100m lived up to its hype, and women’s cycling road race was even today. And an archery final in which both competitors shot 30/30 in the deciding set to force a shoot-off.

3 new features I like (not sure if this is the first Olympics for them) - podium selfies, 3 taps of the staff to start the session and the gold medallist ringing the bell. I hope they keep them in future.
Loving Paris '24 (2024, didn’t see 1924) so far. Cycling past Sacre Coeur was awesome.
Incredible race! The event had gotten a little too predictable when Bolt was in his prime.
Loved seeing the top two immediately after the race looking up at the screens together and neither one could tell who won. Amazing finish
Ethan Katzberg will be very recognizable physically so a good candidate for commercials. Just trying to figure out what type of company could use him as a spokesperson: maybe a hardware stores chain?
that mullet screams Canadian Tire to me
I thought he was giving 70’s rock band member vibes. Awesome throw by him.
Kudos to the American woman who won gold today. Can’t wait to see her in the pursuit event. Love a good underdog story. She wasn’t even supposed to in the road race.
i did. well a 3 hr silent recap
And since the race was yesterday: Blows my mind that reigning World Championships silver medalist Tebogo set a PR and still only finished 6th. Fastest 4th - 8th place finishers in Olympic history.
i think i heard last would have medalled in Tokyo
In all fairness, there is a lot of fluctuation year to year. Yes, last would have medalled in Tokyo. But 1st would have been tied for bronze in London.
Crazy swimming stat: In Ledecky’s 1500m WR swim, her 800m split was 8:11.70. Only McIntosh and Ledecky have ever gone faster than that over 800m.
Yeah, he looks like Burton Cummings of The Guess Who.
Still getting my head around the fact he threw that weight about 92 yards: almost the length of an American football field. Barely able to hold this event in a stadium!
American football fields are small by Field standards. (2028 will be held at the LA Coliseum on a platform several meters above the floor.) They still hold the Javelin throw in the stadium, though the javelins used now keep the device inside the stadium. 2021 had a throw of 86.65m.
They used to hold track events (maybe they still do) at the same time as field events. It was unsettling to see a bunch of runners trotting around the track when someone was heaving the javelin in the same stadium.
Yes. The big US track and field stadiums are at universities now.
