By FAR the most entertaining game was the Chargers - Texans game. BF and I almost didn’t watch it because we are both pretty “meh” about both teams and it doesn’t even have implications for who goes where in the next round since the seeds are adjacent.
Among other craziness, it featured the Texans (on defense) running a blocked PAT attempt to the Chargers’ end zone for a 2-point touchdown. (I always thought it was called a safety when they did this but the official called it a 2-point touchdown. Maybe those terms are interchangeable… not sure.)
Well I was more interested in the outcome of the Ravens and Broncos and Eagles games. Basically watched the Chargers-Texans game due to the time slot. BF came over and helped me disassemble my Christmas tree and we were ready to sit down and it was on, so we watched it including while we ate dinner.
Neither of us felt like staying up for the late game last night.
That was the only one I watched all the way through. As much as I’m supposed to hate the Commanders because I’m a Giants fan, it was inspiring to see the team get their act together after almost a generation of futility, and Daniels is fun to watch.
The more common, and IMO correct way, is to think of seed like ranking. Would you say the 1st ranked team is the lower ranked team because the cardinal number is smaller than 2nd ranked team? I think very few people get confused by “1” in #1 team.
Agreed. Had it on while soaking in my hot tub outside.
On that game: whatever happened to that extremely definable sports term: momentum?
WAS Offense driving down, clearly mo is on their side, and suddenly, a fumble, recovered by TAM! Clearly mo is on TAM’s side! But, no! another fumble, recovered this time by WAS!
Dumbass Collinsworth says, “We’ll never know what happened, if McMillan was too early or it was a fake or Baker didn’t know what he was doing…” No, McMillan was too early, plain as day, you concussed jackhole making millions of dollars yammering for four straight hours.
I made a huge mistake catching up too early on the delay, that’s for sure, and had to listen to the drivel.
I think momentum can only be defined when BOTH teams agree on its direction. Not what sportscasters or simpleton viewers think. And what team is going to cede momentum? Well, losers do, Every time they punt on 4th and short.
Kudos to WAS for being so successful on 4th-down conversions all season long.
he could have been negotiating in good faith at the time and the end date conveyed the advantage of exclusive right to negotiate. why spoil it? that said, mccarthy would be silly to not want 4 or 5 yrs so that if jones pushed him out he’d get the rest of the cash - i bet that’s where it fell apart. didn’t jones string garret along on short term contracts for a bit?
Best & worst are terms of degree & judgement, Was wasn’t worse than TB, they just didn’t have as good a season. The game determines Better & worse, the seeds are a rules based ranking
Looks like similar thing to McCarthy. Non-committal about extension in the last year of his contract. Then started interviewing other coaches after the season and before Garrett’s officially contract expired.
Seems pretty rare for an NFL coach’s contract to expire. Usually fired or extended long before that. Probably shouldn’t be surprised that Jerry’s done it twice in a row now.
Please let Jerry Jones live to be 300 years old, but make his only earthly function be to make all coaching and roster decisions for the Dallas Cowboys.
Did he have input into drafting Irving, Aikman and Smith? If so he did something right at the start if it was other folks responsible, he kind of lucked into 3 hall of fame offensive players being drafted withing a couple years of each other.
Irvin drafted in 1988, before Jones bought (1989).
Per wiki:
There was particular criticism of Jones over his conflict with head coach Jimmy Johnson, as Jones “wanted Cowboys fans to know he had helped build those Super Bowl-winning teams”, while "Johnson insisted that he made all of the personnel moves" because he had the final say in football matters and refused to relinquish this power. Consequently, Jones ousted Johnson after the 1993 season despite two consecutive Super Bowl wins, and refused to induct Johnson into the Cowboys Ring of Honor for 30 years. On November 19, 2023, Jones announced that Johnson would be inducted into the Cowboys Ring of Honor on December 30 of that year.[35]Jones also initially promised Bill Parcells, the Cowboys’ head coach from 2003 through 2006, complete control over football matters; however, their relationship broke down after Jones signed controversial wide receiver Terrell Owens. Parcells’ successor, Wade Phillips, complained to friends about being “undermined and second-guessed, repeatedly” by Jones.[[36]](Jerry Jones - Wikipedia)
So, since Switzer’s departure, ZERO Super Bowl appearances. He’s doing great, as he now owns a Five Billion Dollar team he bought for $140 Million.
It’s fun to hate on Jerry Jones but the Cowboys have a winning record under his ownership, have made the postseason half of the seasons and won the Super Bowl 3x in 36 years.
Many teams would love an owner with those stats. I will grant you it’s been a while since the last Super Bowl win (1995 season).
Interestingly they haven’t lost a Super Bowl since the 1978 season.
