Also, a big reason for that DAL dynasty was the Herschel Walker deal. Even though it took place on Jerrah’s watch, that was Jimmy Johnson’s idea.
In HOF nominee news:
My, what a pickle. A Hall-of-Fame-level player kills wife and self and kills his chances of being entered into the Hall of Fame, cuz the sport he played “made him do it” allegedly. Does the NFL Football League want to admit a lot of stuff out loud, or do they (keep) burying it and hope no one learns how to read?
Most definitely. And it is why Johnson left, per wiki.
That kind of matches my memory of Johnson running things. So Jones was “smart” to hire/keep Johnson but decided he was the smartest guy in the room and and umm, hasn’t been at least with respect to player/personnel decisions.
Investment wise, hard to argue with his success on that front with the team.
No, they’re not interchangeable, as there is such a thing as a 1-point safety on an extra point attempt. It can happen after a team scores a TD, and then on the extra point or 2 pt try, the defense gets the ball outside the endzone (say they block the kick, for instance, and pick up the ball), but in the course of then trying to advance the ball, runs back into his endzone and gets tackled.
Here’s an example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jp4TeP4rw0s
ARI gets some LAR treatment. Even the majority visitor fans will make it feel like home.
Vikings finally reverting to the mean after over-performing all season. Hope we get to see the Stafford/Goff quarterback swap matchup in the next round.
Or I guess NFC championship round. Forgot 6-seed won so Lions play WFT next week.
Yes, I know there’s such a thing as a 1-point safety. If you go to YouTube you can see a compilation of every 1 point safety in NCAA D1 history. (It’s on the books in the NFL, but has never happened.)
Before the era of the two point conversion, the defense getting the ball on a blocked PAT and running it to the offense’s end zone would have also scored only 1 point. But when they put the two point conversion in, they changed that to also be a 2 point score. Which gave Houston an additional point on Saturday.
Also if the offense, for pretty much any reason, runs the ball into the end zone on a PAT attempt, it scores 2 points. Like if they recover a blocked kick, or they just decide to fake the PAT and throw or rush to the end zone from the 15 instead of the 2.
It’s theoretically possible for the defense to score a 1-point-safety but extraordinarily unlikely. I think they’d have to recover a blocked or missed PAT, run it near their end zone, fumble it, and then tackle the original offense in the end zone or hope they commit a foul in the end zone.
That was hard to watch. Sam Darnold was shook.
So you’re saying he looked a lot like Sam Darnold?
He was holding the ball too long, especially late, but in fairness his O-line wasn’t getting the job done either. The Rams had something like a 40% pressure rate. That’s tough on any QB.
He still looked as good a Love did.
NFC North Best Division Never Wases
Saves them from losing in the Super Bowl yet again. I mean, who wants to go through that again, besides the people who weren’t alive when those losses happened, of course?
he was under duress a lot. 9 sacks. many times they were on him at the peak of the drop back and he couldn’t unload to anyone. other times he should have taken off running but instead kept looking and and looking.
he didn’t throw many (any?) accurate balls that were more than like 10 yds downfield.
it was an UGLY game from a MN perspective
I believe they were just trying to get him prepared to play for the Bears next year
fixed.
I still think the Titans should trade down and offer a early teens 1st rounder for McCarthy. Get a rookie QB with 4 years left and a bunch of draft picks to help the roster.
Vikings could offer Darnold something in the $30-$40M range. Mayfield money.
Wasn’t sure last night which statement is more truer:
- MN did not at all play like a 14-3 team.
- I’m surprised that they got to 14-3 with Sam Darnold as QB.
I was telling Jaspess that the thing about Sam Darnold, through a fantasy lens, is that you never know when you will get the 3-point Darnold and when you’ll get the 30-point Darnold. Looks like last night we got the 3.
If they script this year’s Super Bowl as Chiefs vs Rams though, I will puka.

I had to leave home during the first half, right after that supposed forward pass by Stafford. It was close at that time.
The fumble return sent Rams fans into a frenzy — NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said some 45,000 of them made the trek from California for the game, and the 63,400-seat stadium appeared full.
How many were Vikings fans though.
