Yes, I think it was Poles trying to treat Fields right. Poles had no obligation, so he could have accepted the best offer

Buried the lede is correct. Many people use the wrong word.

I did not know that.

Jerry Jeudy - 3 year extension for $58M. $41M guaranteed. No wonder why Tee Higgins wants to get traded.

Traded to Cleveland, specifically

Poles on Monday said the Bears received offers from teams other than Pittsburgh, but he believed the opportunity to send Fields to a place with a clearer path to compete was doing right by the 25-year-old.

Yeah, fuck the team and the fans. This one guy’s career is more important.

A 4th? A 5th? A 6th?

They’re all the same.

There is no way the bears accepting significantly less from the Steelers than other teams. I’m guessing they could have gotten slightly better draft pick, but less likely to hit the playtime escalator given Russ sucked last year. Sounds like corporate spin to save face from having to dump Fields for almost nothing.

Some rule changes for 2024 approved.

Hip-drop tackles now 15 yard penalty.
Teams that are successful on 1 of 2 challenges now get a third.

Kickoff rule changes.

  • Kicker in the same spot.
  • Kicking team lines up on opposing 40yard line. Receiving team on the 35.
  • Ball needs to land within the 20 yard line or touchback to the 35.
  • Onside allowed for trailing teams in the 4th Q.

Touchback to 35 is just insane.

Also, I wonder how they’re ever going to know if a player on the kicking team moves too early when they’re all the way back at the 40, but the ball is landing/caught at the 5.

Overall, the concept just sounds stupid.

Correction: Touchback only goes out to the 30 (proposal was 35, that committee changed). If ball lands between 1 and 20 and receiving team downs it in the end zone, only goes to the 20.

I think it’s still probably rational for kicking team to just kick it out of the end zone and just eat the 5 years. Giving a returner an open field, running start likely means getting to the 20-25 is pretty easy.

Kraft seems to forget all that winning due to a 6th found QB:

“In the end, you can’t win in this league consistently unless you have a first-rate quarterback and a first-rate coach,” Kraft said. “On the other hand, a lot of people are really desperate to move up, and so we’re going to be open to whatever can come our way. One way or another, I’d like to see us get a top-rate, young quarterback.”

A lot of it is knowing which one will turn out that way.

The rest of the article is about AppleTV documentary that focused on the bad things and not the good things, so Kraft is hurt about that; and the annual survey that he claims he never knew about, mainly because the NFL hadn’t released them. if the public knew, as they do now, he would have been embarrassed enough to spend his billions on the team and players instead of hookers.

Here is the report card “released” in 2023. I see no teams to click on.
Here is a summary without detail:

NE #24.

So, I’m guessing he didn’t ask for details and thus didn’t do anything

With news the Eagles were shopping Reddick, I was hoping ATL would be in the mix. I’m not now that I hear the price: “at least” a second round pick

That’s too much for 30 yo edge seeking a new high priced multi year deal. They may get it anyway as good pass rushers are hard to find, but I’d rather let some other team pay for it.

Man, that released survey really embarrassed some teams.

But, I’m now wondering where the LAR will hold their training camp. They have used UC Irvine for the first few weeks, then they move to Cal Lutheran in Thousand Oaks for the remainder of the season. Certainly their new digs in the hottest place in LA aren’t finished?

Los Angeles Rams Press Release | Rams announce move to Woodland Hills.

They are! Maybe they will hold practices at 6AM-10AM, then meetings, then naps and food, then practices at 7PM-10PM. Looking to see if they have indoor fields…
Doesn’t look like it. Two outdoor fields, probably hotter-than-hell turf.

Do Bills fans even know what club seats are???

Speaking of Bills…

Diggs (along with a 5th & 6th) to the Texans for a 2nd rd pick next year.

Poor Joshy…

Technically both NFL and MLB, but we’ll go with it here:

Oakland on the phone. They’ve taken KC’s unwanted before.

I read an article yesterday that the other Kansas City was a possibility.

I’m surprised the nfl allowed an LA team before they were done gouging taxpayers for handouts…otoh, they’ll never be done doing that, I suppose.

Sounds like this tax would cost them an arm and a leg. Oh wait… they’ve already paid a few of those.
