2024 NFL Football Thread

Or, meaningless, in which it might still be flexed and I won’t bother watching.

This report alleges Falcons might get a day 3 pick for Cousins if they eat a bunch of his salary. If that is the price, that’s arguably not better than cutting him.

They’re going all NBA on this.
I thought they’d have to give up a pick, too. A good one.

While i tnink that if cousins was a FA he wiuld sign a contract that would be close to his current 2025 salary that is guaranteed - in a trade the new team has to pay that. If he is released the new team pays only league min for 2025 bc atl pays the rest up to the 27.5m.

So thats where it is and w that he might just get released. Atl might find a partner if they pay the 26.5m for sure. But…any return is more than they will get w release. But they lose conntrol of the timing.

Wednesday football is even dumber than Thursday football.

But…but…but, HISTORY!

When the Kansas City Chiefs take the field on Christmas Day, they’ll become the first NFL teamin 97 years to play a game on six different days of the week during a single-season.

Agreed. This is tough for the players. NHL players must have a stronger union as that league gives its players the days off around Xmas.

Note there are a few bad words in here:

No one needs to check anyone else’s math anymore. It is on the internet, so it must be true. “They said it, I’m just repeating what they said. If you have a problem with it, take it up with them. I’m just the messenger (who decided to repeat it, cuz it was in my interest to do so).”

I get it that this guy on “The Defector” is one person defending math and truth and all. But not enough other people care enough.

it is. they laid out how it was done somewhere and it was about as dumb as the regular thursday night games for short turnaround. all teams playing wednesday also played the prior Saturday (so same as Sun-Thurs). So they lost 1 day of recovery to play Saturday and then got the “regular” Thursday level of recovery. that this happens in week 17 when they likely need more rest and recovery anyway…

the NFL players union seems ok with it all as long as the revenue is reported fairly and accurately and they get their percent.

NFL Football could have declared Christmas in mid-season, I guess.

More seriously, why did the NFL Football League feel the need to harm four teams for the sake of playing on Christmas, and then NOT put the games on a more widespread broadcasting platform (regardless of what Netflix claims but does not back up)?
Jealous of The NBA Basketball League owning Christmas and treating their players like chattel, taking them away from their families on a holiday? “Hey, we should do that, too!”

In any event, the games were pretty disappointing in the sense they were lop-sided. They did not distract me much from family Christmas festivities.

It was funny how the NHL promoted its “noble values” before the broadcasts. A bit of a disconnect between the brand they promote and playing on a day when the players, broadcasters, fans, coaches and officials would normally be home with their families.

This season begins the NFL on Christmas for the rest of the NFL’s existence.

In 2029, when Christmas is next on Tuesday, the NFL will extend week 16 to Tuesday (just like they did for week 15 in 2020). They will “justify” this by pointing out how “the NFL on Christmas” is now a tradition that everyone expects and wants, using Netflix’s fake numbers to justify it.

But by then, the season will be 18 gams, with two bye weeks. The London Jaguars will be playing the Dallas Cowboys for the final game of the tripleheader.

There was football on Christmas???

The answer to this introduction is always the same. Huge piles of money. They could do it and they would be paid stupid levels of money for it

Interesting Bears game. YouTube has been pushing '85 Bears videos my way the past couple weeks again and I watched 2 1/2 of them, including their drubbing of Dallas, which makes the current Bears just look especially bad.

But the non-TD, then TD, then non-TD was almost worth the price of admission. I’m not sure how many fans really thought he was scoring as they cheered his slow prance toward the endzone, but I thought it was pretty funny. Then there was the huge TD cheer. And the boo after that, of course. Pretty entertaining for at least that one play.

Time management at the end was horrid again. Also, would he have had any chance at a 58-yard field goal on the last play? It seemed more likely than making a long first down at that point. But I suppose the field goal would have been blocked anyway with Seattle breaking through the left side of the line, as we’ve seen before.

I’m sure beer sales were up last night

Yeah, the crowd reactions to the “TD” was funny.

Yes, time management + play calling was terrible. And that’s after 2 miracle plays got them in position to fail again. This was a game only watchable by DVR.

Pete Carroll has expressed interest in being the next Bears’ coach but I expect a lot of other people are also interested.
