I guess when Bronny needs to play, he’ll go down; when the Lakers need someone to hand out towels and water bottles, he’ll go up.
It’ll probably be good for the home team’s gate revenue…at least for a while.
Why?
He is no draw, and his dad will be too busy to come to games.
As cool as it was when Michael Jordan’s kid went to Illinois, it soon became apparent that he was not a player at that level. If his dad was at a game, he was hidden in some luxury box, not interacting with anyone. It turned out to be a big ol’ Meh.
What Lebron ought to do is get Bronny an Italian tutor, or maybe a Mandarin tutor. or both
Wade doing his best Han Solo
Between him and Joel Embiid, I don’t know that they play 82 games total this season.
I read that headline as " Bulls say Ball sprained wrist in win to miss time" (without the comma).
IOW, “Bulls say Ball sprained wrist in win in order to miss time” …and I’m thinking, just take PTO, bro!
Anthony Richardson just got cancelled for this
Didn’t Kevin Carter take himself out of the last play of the Rams SB win over the Titans because he was tired? Dick Vermeil was almost beside himself
We missed that Bronny scored his first NBA points in Cleveland. [Didn’t matter, the Cavs whacked the Lakers by 24.] Slowly working his way up the NBA all-time list!
And I didn’t realize 5x5 was a stat thing, but Wembanyama did it for the 2nd time in his career last night, making him the 3rd player in NBA history with multiple 5x5 games. Which, since the others are Hakeem Olajuwon (6) and Andrei Kirilenko (3), I’m surprised that Wilt Chamberlain and Michael Jordan didn’t have multiple 5x5s.
I would guess that MJ didn’t get a lot of blocks defending wing players in an era where teams’ offenses still revolved around big men, not wings.
To be fair he is only worth $126B so it was closer to 2%. But he also already paid $2B to buy the clippers. So sounds like he has now invested at least 4% of his wealth in the clippers and he has probably put in more since the time he bought it so maybe 5% of his wealth? That does seem like he is serious about the Clippers.
The recent story on 60 Minutes had him at around 170B, but at some point it’s hard to count and hard to keep track of. The point was that the Clippers are not the majority of his wealth. In fact, they are only one small piece.
You may be misremembering. This 60 minutes story from last month has him “north of $120 billion.” Sure 170 is north of 120 but I don’t think that was what they were hinting at.
I agree it is a very small part of his net worth but 4-5% is a lot of money. But it doesn’t sound like he is shy about spending on them. He seems more willing than a lot of other owners, though he likely has a lot more to spend than do others.
It’s probably the squillionaire’s version of middle-aged men having a hobby of doing up old cars or salvaged boats for which they could easily spend 5% of their wealth. He’s just doing up a run-down basketball franchise.
Cleveland becomes the 8th team in league history to start off a season 12-0. The others?
2015-16: Golden State (started 24-0, finished 73-9; lost in Finals)
2002-03: Dallas (started 14-0, finished 60-22; lost in Conference Finals)
1996-97: Chicago (started 12-0, finished 69-13; NBA Champions)
1993-94: Houston (started 15-0, finished 58-24; lost in Finals)
1982-83: Seattle (started 12-0, finished 48-34; lost in 1st round)
1957-58: Boston (started 14-0, finished 49-23; lost in Finals)
1948-49: Washington Capitols (started 15-0, finished 38-22; lost in Finals)
NBA Cup Final, tomorrow night: Milwaukee vs. Oklahoma City. Apparently Milwaukee was focusing on winning it this year, which is perfect for Doc Rivers because outside of a title in Boston where the team was uber-loaded (and still needed 7 games), it’s not like he’s leading them to anything in the postseason.
We didn’t do a “quarter mark” check on the standings, but if that axiom held in the NBA your playoffs teams would be:
Eastern Conference - Cleveland, Boston, New York, Orlando, Milwaukee, Miami, Atlanta, Indiana (currently 12-15)
Not making the playoffs: Washington (3-21), who’s apparently trying to be last year’s Detroit (who’s 11-16, and has nearly matched last year’s 14-win total), or Philadelphia (7-16) where Joel Embiid is busy rehabbing his currently injury so he can get hurt about 4 games later.
Western Conference - Oklahoma City, Memphis, Houston, Dallas, Denver, Phoenix, Golden State, Minnesota
Not making the playoffs: New Orleans, where Zion Williamson has had his yearly injury that’s going to keep him out much of the year, and keeps him squarely on pace to be the modern-day Bill Walton but without a title … or getting anywhere near one.
Something is wrong if the analytics have solved he sport:
I wonder what would happen if next year they just dropped the 3-point line?
Increased the height of the rim?
Decided to use a point system instead of W-L, using point differential (PD) as a motivation for more defense?
- Win = 3 points, Loss = 0 points
- 10 positive or fewer PD: 0 additional points in the standings.
- 11-20 PD: 1 additional point
- etc.
People aren’t watching anymore!! Something must be done to protect the billionaires!!
They need a new commissioner. That face is just so unsettling to look at.
