2024-25 English Premier League discussion

I have reverted to being a Reds fan this year (they were my team when I was younger). Hope they win the CL.

The reds had Bruce Groblar who was from Zimbabwe and used to play for a team there called Highlanders. It was my team in the 80s.

I followed the Reds in the 70s and 80s when they had a lot of good teams. When I travelled for Bata in the 1980s I ran into Liverpool fans everywhere. Strong following in East Africa. I understand the passion for the team.

The youngsters here may not remember that Liverpool and Nottingham Forest finished 1-2 in the standings in 1979. History about to repeat?

My uncle worked overseas for much of his career, and particularly in the UK. He became a die hard Liverpool fan in the 80’s.

That 80s team was so good. I used to love Jan Molby. He was a great midfielder in a day people loved the strikers.

Slot has taken something great and made it better. This team changes shape regularly during a game with exception of Mo and VVD. Players are playing better and everyone appears dangerous. Mo is passing more and better making his attacking deadly despite losing speed and not just blowing past guys, stopping, cutting inside and blasting. Gakpo is also showing signs of elevating to top level.

Time for a bidding war, in which the Arabs eventually win:

RM not offering enough.

Again, I’m unsure of this transfer process. I thought if a club wanted some player, they offered the transfer fee in the contract to the current club which the current club cannot refuse. Then it is up to the player to decide if the new deal ($$$) he will get with the new club is worth it (if younger, playing time is a consideration), or if his current club will pony up more. ??

Not all player contracts stipulate a transfer release fee

Looks like RM is determined to poach TAA because they are a bit weak at the back.

If we can snag TAA from the Reds and Davies from Bayern we are set.

Maybe MCI should also be bidding for the player.

Doubt Liverpool is going to let Coutinho, I mean TAA, leave mid-season. Doubt TAA would force his way out since he will have to deal with giving up everything for him and his family there by acting a selfish traitor. Better to wait and leave after a few more trophies. There is no benefit to leaving early.

Being the #1 seed in UCL is advantageous, since top seed gets lowest remaining seed. I think.

Just read an article on newsnow (uk) that makes it sound like VVD, Salah and TAA have agreed on financials. TAA wants captaincy and only 3 years and Salah wants image rights. Rest sounds done. Of course, lots of rumors but all 3 have more reasons to stay than go.

Salah looks to be on the way out.

VVD will stay.

How much of this does LIV control? Video games, UCL and EPL promotions, etc.
Does this mean he gets more money if a giant banner of his likeness is flown at the stadium? If Salah contracts with a competitor of LIV’s front jersey company, can he tape his front jersey, or would they give him a blank front jersey to play in?

More money elsewhere. But, they can leave after they win the title(s) this year.
Not sure why LIV would agree to anything long-term or lucrative with Salah and VVD.
TAA is worth keeping for another 5-6 years. $20M transfer offer from RM? Cheapskates.

Cross post from USA Soccer:

Arsenal held by Brighton to a one each goal while Liverpool has 2 games in hand. The Arsenal goal came from a fine run and shoot by Nwaneri on the right. The BHA goal came from a penalty after Arsenal lost possession in the midfield and BHA did a counter and the striker was brought down in the box. Some good misses from both sides.

Meanwhile, the Spurs continue their downward slide.
