2022 Winter Olympic Games

I don’t think any of the Russian athletes have a lot of choice about the system that manipulates them.

I took joy in the performance of the Japanese women who took bronze. She skated beautifully, she was proud of herself, and she probably isn’t forced to take illegal drugs.

Also, even as an American, i was overwhelmed by the joy of the Canadian women’s hockey team when they took the gold. Wow, what a moment.

I’m sympathetic, but the Russian team should still be stripped of the gold medal. And if other Russian athletes doped, knowingly or otherwise, then their medals should also be stripped.

I’m sure they all doped. Her grandfather’s heart medication. Yeah, i believe that.

I don’t care about the medals. The Russians shouldn’t be allowed to send skaters to the Olympics. It’s child abuse.

Between Biles, osaki, and the Russian girl, society has failed people we collectively idolize.

I’m sure there are many others who don’t get the attention, but are still suffering.

Stopping them from only the Olympics won’t solve the problem, they’ll still torture the same “resources” under the same conditions to compete at World Championships and Grand Prix events.

yeah, I suppose so.

I quite enjoyed their singing of O Canada even if it was a bit off-key. They are definitely better at hockey than singing!

The Canadian women are on a good run with last year’s Olympic gold in soccer and now the hockey gold. The Canadian men’s soccer team qualifying for the World Cup this year will make up for the Canadian mens lack of success in Olympic hockey.

Yes, I enjoyed them singing “O Canada”. They looked so happy and excited and together. That’s one of my olympic highlights this year. Even though they beat us. It was a good time to be watching CBC.

Do you know of anyway to re-watch the Women’s ice hockey bronze medal game (Finland vs Switzerland)?

Do you know of a way to watch the upcoming ( 19 Feb - 22:10 CT) Men’s ice hockey gold medal game (…no cable, no satellite, no subscriptions, just internet & over the air television)?

Peacock TV is only $4.99 a month. You may even be able to get a free trial for a week. Can use internet and a web browser, “smart TV” not required. I watched the Women’s hockey gold medal game the other day, and would watch the US men’s hockey if they were still playing. The Men’s gold medal game will certainly be on there, as is the Women’s bronze medal game.

Much more accurate, IMO.

I don’t know where you are located but the men’s hockey final would be on CBC. Sometimes possible to access CBC for free from outside Canada. Go Finland Go!

Yeah…as much as I loathe subscriptions, I signed up for the peacock…my wife would pay up to $4.99 or more just to watch this one game.

She’s already rewatched the women’s bronze medal game, so it’s all just gravy at this point.

What’s the deal with “mass start speed skating”? (e.g.) What’s the point of having the intermittent sprints when gold, silver, & bronze are all going to be determined by who finishes 1st, 2nd, & 3rd?

I can see the point of it for the semifinals where getting a point or two from the sprint will get you to the finals, but the points you get for the top three vastly outweighs anything you get for the sprint.

The internet, in particular olympics.com, has failed me. GoA never does.

In the final of the Olympics those intermediate sprints only matter to differentiate among those below 3rd. So not much point. Over a season long series though those are quite important in your overall ranking and can help you get qualified for prestigious races such as the Olympics.

Enjoying the mixed team slalom. One middle-aged gripe - the graphic showing the draw (which countries ski against each other) wastes a ton of real estate and uses a tiny font.

At least the US men’s hockey team didn’t go quietly:
