1/6 Select Committee

Probably chant “Hang Mike Pence” with the rest of them? Or say the more typical “Some people are saying we should hang Mike Pence. What do you think?”

Seriously though, it doesn’t seem like they had much of a plan. Another speech and/or entering the house chamber were ideas that were floated.

Probably. This doesnt really shock me at all though.

My guess? He thought either the fake elector scheme and/or the scheme to capture Pence would play out, and he was there to accept the results of his electoral “victory”. Pure speculation of course.

yeah, he was inciting an insurrection, so him actually going there isn’t a stretch here. he must have thought it would work.

I’ve always seen him as a a big talking coward.

I’m not surprised by most of it, but trump knowing the crowd was heavily armed and wanting to take down the metal detectors is new to me, and a really huge development imo.

I think even Trump knows that to stage a coup you have to actually be present to be installed as the leader.

Good catch. I found a list of companies owned by Fox Broadcasting, and it didn’t show up.

Now I can’t figure out how I got there. I visit foxnews.com periodically. I’m sure I was there yesterday, so my first thought is that I clicked on a link there.

But, I was also googling to see which media outlets were picking up this Peter Alexander tweet. So it’s more likely I saw this headline, the “Fox” in the name, saw a graphic look that seems typical of Fox, and blew right past the “Metro” part.

I think Kenny figured it out. Some fringe news aggregator that’s playing off the Fox name (a weird concept, but we live in a weird world).

Looking at this particular article, I noticed no byline or source other than “staff”. I expect in this case they picked up the tweet and wrote their own story.

Sorry for the misdirection.

I bet Fox Metro News advertises on Fox News and you probably clicked an ad thinking it was a link to another Fox News story. (Was probably disguised to appear as such.)

March up the steps, demand to be let in (he is the president, after all), get TV coverage of capitol police standing in his way in front of closed doors, with his thousands of followers shouting behind him. Say the system is rigged and they won’t even give him time to present his case.

If the cp actually let him in, go to the House chamber and do the same thing.

Generally, great TV for the narrative of “they won’t listen to both sides”.

In his best world, the congresspeople are so shaken by his mass of followers that they postpone the count so the states have time to “reconsider”.

Remember, this is Trump. He doesn’t have precise plans. He just disrupts and figures he can surf the chaos.

This looks like the original.

All the other hits look like the FMN site where there is not an actual byline other than “staff” or something similar.

Admittedly I’m no expert on staging a coup, but if you’re already the president, there is no installation required.

I can understand him wanting to be there for the victory lap, I guess. I wonder if the reality of the situation played out as he expected. Minus his success, of course.

I am not surprised there were people in the area outside the official crowd at Trump’s rally that were armed. I suppose I am surprised at the take down the metal detectors comment, but categorize that as “shows Trump knew what he was doing and Republicans excuses look really dumb now”.

That becoming real thing for more people is an important outcome, if that happens.

Seems more up Trump’s Team’s alley to find a person to say crazy things (and even lie) to the House Committee to ruin the hearing’s credibility. Sure, she gets a few months for perjury. Pay her off for her loyalty.

Except the only thing that seems to be “debunked” from her testimony is that Trump didn’t assault a Secret Service agent. She obviously didn’t make that claim and those are just click bait headlines but if most of her testimony was crap, like the comments about getting the armed fans to march on the Capitol, there would be plenty of articles about that as well.

The correct answer is that it is all FAKE NEWS!!
No matter that it’s not. You tell people what they want to hear (Jordan Klepper dropped another segment on TDS the other night, just genius at shooting fish in a barrel), and they’ll believe it.
No one seems to have the energy to debunk FoxNews 24/7/52/365.

Sadly this^

i think there were new things confirmed (or directionally strengthened) via the testimony.

i DNGAF about confirming tantrums or similar. that he thought he was going to the capital for real is interesting, but not needed. (they tricked gramps into the car telling him they were going for ice cream!) these are the red herrings to focus on.

confirmation that he knew the mob was armed and there possibly to do harm - that gets to his speech leaning towards actual incitement. also the witness tampering (although that needs to be corroborated as actual texts if possible).

There are lots of previous reports on temper tantrums, so I don’t think that’s as important a revelation. Stephanie Grisham’s book describes someone that was nicknamed The Music Man that would come play show tunes for Trump to soothe him whenever he was pitching a fit.

I was at the gym and none of the TVs have sound. But the Fox headline was “Secret Service debunks WH Aide” and the CNN headline was fluctuating between “Senior House Republican says indictments are forthcoming” and “WH Aide claims Trump lunged at Secret Service / steering wheel”.

That’s from memory, might be slight paraphrases. But it seems like CNN is continuing with the “lunged” exaggeration. They were certainly using that word in their headline.
