Will you get the vaccine as soon as available to you?

This one? Do you know how many people were in the trial? :link:

No, not that one. The one I was in compared J&J as a booster after either J&J or Pfizer, not J&J or Pfizer as a booster to Pfizer. And it was larger, and run out of several locations. And it’s not done, yet.

But it is similar enough to that one that I’m excited – it looks like I didn’t screw myself by getting a bad booster.

I kind of knew that – the particular side effects I had from the booster were “consistent with a strong T-cell response”, according to my pcp, the allergist I saw a week after I was dosed, and a friend who is a professor who has been studying the pandemic professionally. But it’s nice to see such reassuring numbers from people who had pretty much exactly what I had.

Is there any data on boosting Pfizer with Moderna?

does that article imply that J&J with pfizer might be better than pfizer with pfizer?

Yes, there’s a small study from the UK that looked at 7 different vaccines as boosters over AZ and Pfizer (since that’s mostly what they used in the UK) and one of the seven is Moderna. It worked very well.

Maybe? It depends how you read it. The antibody response to the original (Wuhan) strain of the virus was stronger at 2 weeks when Pfizer was boosted with Pfizer, and was slightly stronger at 4 weeks, although the difference shrank, because the J&J boosted people had higher titer and the Pfizer booster people had lower titers. So you could read that to say Pfizer is better.

But the antibody response at 4 weeks was slightly higher with J&J for delta and beta. And since Delta is what’s out there now, and Beta shares some mutations with Omicron, that probably matters more than the immune response to the original virus.

It’s really close, though – both those differences are less than a factor of 2, and a factor of 2 is a very small difference in effectiveness for antibodies. The graph it on a log10 scale for a reason.

And the cellular response, which is less specific, and more likely to hold up to omicron, was also slightly better with the J&J booster.

It is looking like mixing an adenovirus vaccine with an mRNA vaccine is a winning strategy, fwiw.

That’s rough. Best wishes to the friend.

I had to cancel my first COVID booster due to a schedule conflict and it took me about 10 days to get it rescheduled. I’m now triple Pfizer powered!

just in time to need a new booster for scary omicron!

Just got my booster, I’m now on team Pfizer-Pfizer-Moderna. I’m a little concerned about side effects but the Pharmacist said her 3rd Moderna shot was no big deal.

Maybe for my 2nd booster (of course there’s going to be a second booster), I’ll get J&J

I was always disappointed that I didn’t get any freebies for getting my shots the first time around. But today, I got a $5 gift card at the pharmacy. It’s a small pharmacy that didn’t have a grocery section. I didn’t really want to spend it on hygiene items, but luckily they had some gourmet chocolates by checkout. They’re good but they taste even better because they were given to me for doing something I wanted to do anyway.

I remember buying some curtain rods at IKEA. Shopping there stresses me out, but I had a weird space and needed something modular and IKEA was basically the only thing I could find that would work.

So I guess you get some sort of gift certificate for some percentage of the purchase price when you shop there… and I’d spent several hundred dollars on everything so this gift certificate was like maybe $8 or so.

But when would I ever shop there again?!?!

Well they had some Swedish cheese right near the checkout lines so I looked in the case and randomly picked one of the roughly 12 kinds of cheeses and it cost roughly the same amount as my gift certificate.

Man, that cheese was delicious, but I have absolutely no idea which one of the 12 kinds it was!

21 hours in, mild soreness at the injection site and a mild headache yesterday, which might have been unrelated.

I hope it’s a long while before I have to do that again.

I like trying to find the hidden shortcut routes in IKEA so that you don’t have to walk through the entire store. It gives 15 minutes of my life back.

You guys are IKEA’ing wrong. It’s about the journey, not the destination. [/offtopic]
