I might be concerned about giving j&j to a kid. But i haven’t heard anything that would concern me re the nRNA vaccines. What have you heard?
There were reports in Europe that some women were having issues with their monthly periods (much more severe cramps, periods lasting 10+ days and coming every 21 days , etc). I never really followed up because my wife got Pfizer, but I’d have to research more before ok-ing it for my daughter.
No hesitation here.
I haven’t even heard any news about Moderna or J&J expanding eligibility. I’m sure it’ll happen eventually, but Pfizer will be all ages first, probably by months.
We got our 13yo son vaccinated last week. We even asked him how he felt, and he wanted to get it, mostly in the interest of public health is how I’d couch it. He knows that we need most of the population to get the vaccine. So he got Pfizer and it went well, just the usual sore shoulder. I know the second shot could be worse (we don’t think he ever got Covid).
Moderna is testing 2+ now — they skipped the 12-18 age group and went straight to 2+.
I have an appt at Kroger for this Friday for dose #2, but need to reschedule. The online system won’t let me make another appt (there are plenty of them available) because I already have one - but there is no place to cancel an appt online - it says to call a phone number. I do, and they say, “we are experiencing a lot of calls, go check the online stuff” and then hangs up.
I think I’ll just walk in and see if they’ll give me one.
Oh, cool. I hanging out with a couple of coworkers over the weekend, and we were wondering if and when there would be a HEDIS measure related to the COVID vaccine. Would they add it to the CIS measure or maybe make a stand alone measure for all ages? Seems like they’ll eventually do something, since the virus and the vax are likely to be here to stay.
The majority of mass vax sites in my area now offer all approved vaccines and will administer dose #2 with vax card. Or, vaccinespotter.org lists retail pharmacies and the manufacturer. With minimal effort, finding a new appt shouldn’t be a problem. You actually have a pretty big window to get your 2nd shot.
Actually, they apparently did do some 12-17 year old testing, but kind of rolled it into a 6mo-11yr old testing, which entered Phase II in March.
Did they report the results of the 12-17 testing they did?
I can’t find that they did. They might have realized they were behind Pfizer and rolled it into one big study to hope they get approval for 2+ or 6mo+ on a better timeframe.
When i got my first dose, they handed me a card with an appointment for the second. I got home and realized i had a conflict, so i called to change the appointment. “We can’t change second appointments. But you can show up late, and we’ll still vaccinate you.”
So I arrived an hour late to my second appointment, and as far as i could tell, no one cared.
Annoying that you can’t cancel, though.
good thing you were available later, my appointments were on a Saturday, what if I was away for the weekend?
Plan better? Not like you didn’t know the 2nd dose would be 3/4 weeks after the first.
when I got my first, it was like hunting ducks on a roller coaster, I was happy to grab a date that worked before it disappeared, and I had no idea which drug and if it was going to be 3 or 4 weeks. or even one and done
The whole story is:
When I signed up for the 1st, it made me sign up for the 2nd. But it gave me very few options for the 2nd (no idea why - there are tons of options now…), and none of them would work for me. I wanted the 1st, though, so I picked one figuring I could cancel and reschedule later. Turns out - I can’t.
It shouldn’t be hard to get a 2nd dose. That’s not the problem. I’m just annoyed, as a customer trying to get service, when “customer service” is impossible to get.
I’m going to argue that there are very, very few things that should take precedence over getting the COVID vaccine from societies’ standpoint, so I understand the reasoning for this.
When I went to get jabbed, I didn’t even know which vaccine I would get. The woman checking me in handed me the second appointment card immediately after handing me the “Pfizer” card. So no, I didn’t know when the or if the second dose would be.
I think I could have found another site to get the second dose, though, if I’d had to.
You knew it would be one of 2 days though, and you had at least 3 weeks warning to clear your calendar.
