And the Pfizer study that got the vaccine approved actually looked at data one week after the second dose. I think the FDA just advertises “2 weeks” for simplicity.

Interesting. So then Pfizer and Johnson & Johnson are really the same.
I was definitely less careful at one week post-vaccine. Nice to retroactively know that I was already fully protected. Wish I could claim that I knew that, but I didn’t. Still, I did figure that one week after the second vaccine was probably pretty darn good.
Three weeks after the first dose, without the second dose, is statistically similar to the J&J effectiveness. (Although I was looking at graphs of individual responses, and there’s quite a range of time-to-high-antibodies from person to person.)

Is that apples-to-apples or using the pre-variant Pfizer data and the post-variant J&J data? Because if it’s the latter that’s not a fair comparison.
Either way, I was definitely letting my guard down around the 4/1-week mark. (4 weeks after the first shot / 1 week after the second)
That is true enough, based on what J&J published. However, the CDC guidelines say “full protection” is 2 weeks after the final dose of whatever vaccine you have. So, my state allows “vaccinated sections” at outdoor sporting events. You’re allowed in 2 weeks after J&J. So if I wanted to sit in the vaccinated section, which I do, getting the J&J would have made a difference. The first soccer game with this section is 2 days before my 2 week mark, so unfortunately I can’t get in.
I am half tempted to buy a ticket to the vaccine section, print out the Pfizer study, and show it to the usher as proof that I have enough protection to be allowed into the section.
12 yo and 14 yo shot today. In the good way. Summer vacation is a go.

Yeah, I don’t really believe that though, I’m sorry to say.
I wish they wouldn’t have said that because I think it hurts their credibility.

Looks like you may not be able to choose J&J much longer.
Well, dammit.
That’s the one Stu wanted. He’s going to be the last one in the family to get vaccinated as it is, and he’s the oldest (by far) and has cancer.
I would have thought that with cancer he’d prefer a vaccine that doesn’t contain a live virus.
I would rather not dispute his thinking behind which vaccines he prefers, and why… and specifically why he doesn’t want to go to a pharmacy for a vaccine.
But more to the point, Stu basically goes nowhere, unlike me & the kids. He doesn’t want to go to NYC, and he’s not traveled anywhere since he’s been diagnosed w/ cancer. Part of it is that we’ve got ducks now, and somebody needs to stay home with the ducks.
The kids & I are going to Virginia for vacation in August with my parents, who are already vaccinated. So I’m feeling good about this all around.
Oh heck, my husband waited until way late to get vaccinated, and I completely understand not wanting to fight with your spouse over that. (He got a first dose of Moderna a week ago.)

Usually shots are given in the arm. But wherever works for them.

I initially fought w/ Stu about it, when I was trying to get an appointment for him. I told him about J&J at Walmart, but he didn’t want to go to a pharmacy to get a shot, yadda yadda.
Well, I have left it to him to figure out about getting himself vaccinated and concentrated on getting the rest of us vaccinated. Mo & I are done, so it’s just Bon & D, with their first shot on Sunday… and much closer than where Mo & I had to go.
Got the antibodies test back from my blood donation about a week ago. Still positive.
I’m curious if there is anyone here who got the vaccine for themselves but is hesitant to take their teen/pre-teen to get it. From the looks of it, the answer is mostly no. But I wonder if anybody is hesitant to vaccinate their little kids when it’s approved. I could maybe see somebody who is otherwise pro-vax being hesitant for a little kid considering the side effects can be pretty intense compared to existing vaccines.
Not really for my 12 year old son. For my 8 year old daughter, I’m a little more hesitant for some of them given the issues some women have had with Moderna and J&J.

Not sure about that. When my kids were between the ages of 0-2, they would inevitably break out in a fever the day after a vax for about 24 hours.
