If Pfizer or Moderna then you could do one and then just cancel the second appointment and never reschedule it.
I assume that at least most countries in Western Europe wouldn’t recommend one dose instead of two (for those with Covid antibodies) unless they had fairly good evidence that was all that was needed.
that J&J is gonna be hard at work for the day I just had. I went to dinner with my mother on Staten Island where they believe covid is a hoax. the restaurant we went to was not socially distanced at all. the tables were right near each other as normal. there was no plexiglass dividers like i’ve seen in the city. nothing. also, the waiters had the mask below their nose for the most part. then on the express bus, some people had masks on, some people didn’t. DO YOUR WORK J&J!!!
at dinner we were talking about people we know who haven’t gotten the vaccine. there was the one black friend who i already posted about. then there is this couple, girl side was my neighbor growing up. they are super scared of covid, but also super scared of vaccine side effects, thus they both put off getting it. and now they are like, ya maybe we’ll get the vaccine, but we have to time it that we aren’t both getting it at the same time just in case we get sick, so the other one can take care of the sick spouse. like, are the side effects THAT bad that you’re likely to need to have this much caution about a vaccine? idk, i had J&J and had no side effects at all outside a sore arm. they also will ONLY take pfizer. they likely voted for trump, but i don’t think that’s the issue here. then there are my mother’s two trumpkin friends, same reasoning. they are afraid of the side effects. they both had covid though and last they checked I think both still had antibodies, so they don’t want to have to deal with the side effects of the vaccine when they think they still have some amount of protection having had the virus itself. their son, I assume same reasoning, had covid, doesn’t want the vaccine enough to deal with the side effects. His wife also not getting the vaccine. not sure what her reasoning is though. somehow he got covid, but his wife did not, in the same house, assuming same bed. she tested negative for antibodies. odd.
No. I’m on another chat site with a gazillion people and a thread titled “what were your vaccine side effects” and three hundred people have answered the poll and more than a hundred different people have posted replies. And not one has been sick enough to need someone to take care of them. The guy who started the thread was by far the sickest – that’s why he started it, he felt like shit for 3 weeks. But even he didn’t need someone else to care for him. And the enormous majority of respondents had a sore arm and maybe were tired or had a low grade fever for a few hours. A large minority had no symptoms at all.
We scheduled childcare in case we were both really miserable after. But, we have a menacing two year old who pushes buttons and destroys everything he can, and can sense when you’re exasperated, so I think it’s a little different. If it were just us, or even us and our older kids, it would have been an overreaction.
we hired someone to watch my father after his 2nd dose because he had a really bad reaction to the first dose…but he’s 86 years old. these people are 40’s, early 50’s.
i just assumed i’d go home and if i had a bad reaction, sleep it off or whatever.
We are at 63.3% of eligible adults (over 16s) in the UK (one shot).
UK is now showing 92.3% uptake on those 45 and over that were eligible for shot (one dose). 30% of all eligible adults (over 16s) are also now fully vaccinated (two doses).
67% of the over-60s (main risk group) are now fully vaccinated (two shots).
95% of all adults in care homes
82% of all care home staff
It’s starting to slow down though as now we have far more people taking 2nd shots vs first shot, and we are encountering increasing levels of vaccine hesitance with the AZ shot. People are starting to shun it in order to wait for Pfizer/Moderna.
But it does seem we might be able to reach some sort of herd immunity in the UK around September this year.
This is my BIL and his wife. How can you be so terrified of the virus that you’re scared to look out your window and then the vaccine is finally here and you’re so scared of the vaccine you put up with continued risk to COVID!? No wonder they have nearly double digit number of cats.
My DD and SIL talked about getting it. I suggested that they not get it at the same time, maybe a week apart. They have a nearly 1YO and I would hate to see both of them feeling like my wife did after her first shot and having to take care of the baby. I’m sure they could do it without much problem, but with the vaccine available now as walk up, no big deal separating them out a little.
I work with PCPs, some of my clinics are giving vaccines, and more are trying to come online. This is the primary reason: lots of folks trust their PCP and might get vaccinated in their office, and some of these folks would not otherwise get it.
One of my PCPs did a couple of spots on a local radio show to promote the vaccine. He is black, and lives in a community that is very mixed, in terms of race and ethnicity. So lots of his pts aren’t super-trusting of the medical community, and he used his position to advocate for more people getting vaxxed. And he said he did actually have people come in and tell him they’re getting vaccinated because they heard his message on the radio. Nice win.
We have a walk-in mass vax center 10 minutes away that goes to 5:30. Assuming they announce that they are taking 12-15 year olds immediately, we’ll head over this week.
Looks like the CDC could approve this tomorrow and we’re set, right? My son is 13 and has no qualms about getting vaccinated, so we’ll start looking for an appt soon for him.
I got you one for a Saturday. Do you need me to refresh the website for your kids?
In NYC, you can just walk in at any time I think. It’s not like that there now? Oh, I guess the locations where you can just walk in here are the state run sites, like Javits. I don’t think you were super close to any of those. Aren’t you planning a NYC trip with your kids soon? Just walk on over to Javits if you are.
