A little over 200 years ago we were actually fighting. Then a bunch of history happened. So maybe never is too strong. A long time, sure. I hate it, but can’t blame you one bit.
That didn’t take long to answer.
Not in my lifetime anyway!
We don’t know.
ICE has put citizens into detention in its recent crackdown. ICE has, in the past, deported adult citizens.
(I think ICE has deported child citizens in the recent crackdown when parents were undocumented…but I wouldn’t count these as evidence of ICE’s imperfections.)
Considering the gang ties for several folks known to have been on rendition flights seems debatable (one person was allegedly identified as having gang ties because he did the ASL sign for “I love you”), and considering ICE’s track record, I think it is reasonable to vigorously question the lack of of oversight / judicial review.
Omg do not ever start a weather conversation with someone from Vancouver. They’re the vegans of the weather world.
Hey, I miss those Ontario winters that I grew up with. Vancouver is too mild in winter.
Ontario winters are for suckers. ![]()
Add this to the list. Lawful permanent resident in the US since she was 7, government is looking to deport her for being pro Palestinian
https://www.cbc.ca/news/world/columbia-student-deportation-trump-lawsuit-1.7492419
So:
- US citizens who are children of deported individuals are being deported
- Lawful permanent residents are being deported for their speech
- Legal refugees are being sent to foreign prisons without due process
- Unknown numbers of unknown people are being sent to foreign prisons without due process and without transparency as to who they are or whether they committed a crime
- Foreigners are being detained, interrogated about their loyalty to the US President, and imprisoned
- Foreigners are being denied pre-authorized access to the US if their private text messages are critical of Trump
Hasn’t there also been a report of citizens having phones searched and getting hassled about their loyalties at the border?
(Searching citizens’ gadgets is at least legal, if distasteful.)
This sums up the strategy of the administration pretty well.
What a surprise

Who knows if this will help but sounds like they are trying
Have to say…I was not expecting to read this in the Telegraph.
They usually bend over backwards themselves trying to praise Trump
There is a definite vibe shift happening in the UKs right-wing media as the level of incompetence coming from the US keeps increasing.
But, if you read the 1st Amendment carefully, you will see that it states, “CONGRESS shall make no law…”
And as we know, Congress is sitting on the sidelines for this one, and the Executive Branch is simply “making up laws” and enforcing them. (Or, they are breaking laws and getting away with it. Your choice.)
Yet another example of a refugee that was following the rules and the US shipped him to the El Salvador prison

People will have stopped using the phrase “shining city on a hill” to describe America. Or maybe that expression has already been deleted everywhere by the Trump administration. This is one more story showing that empathy is no longer in its vocabulary.
A 20 year old country song on my Spotify playlist came up last night, and I was not really prepared to hear these lyrics that I have heard 100 times before:
I thank God for my life
And for the stars and stripes
May freedom forever fly, let it ring
Salute the ones who died
The ones that give their lives
So we don’t have to sacrifice
All the things we love
Does this country song talk about protecting rights for everyone?
It was from 20 years ago when things were a lot less divisive and well before MAGA. I can not find a band association with Trump or MAGA, with the only mention of politics in an interview was pointing out that we need to let the media stop dividing us. I am going to assume they meant everyone.
