A good change… which needed to be acclimated to; hopefully an accurate analogy.
Though I am looking forward to XLookup, basically indexmatch without the weird syntax.
Sorry, guys, I mainly copied over my watch threads, and a couple of the Excel-related threads.
I probably didn’t capture anything other people wanted, alas.
Well, a lot of people had been hanging onto the AO via the IP address, until that finally went dead a day or so ago.
We’ll likely get more jokes/joke threads as more people who want to chat show up.
yeah, i don’t post in the jokes thread, but i was mostly posting on the ao rather than on here via the ip link method.
I have hope then!
Unpopular opinion: I am not sad that the AO has gone down.
The best part of the AO makes me a frothy cappuccino every morning, kisses my forehead, & tells me I’m beautiful.
Two years later, I’m still swooning. #soulmates…
RIP
AO had dating threads? Who knew!
Mostly I just blogged about my chronic depression and low self esteem until somebody became interested in dating me.
Wow! An unexpected response. Sounds like an actuarial hero.
Le sad. Clicked on the ip link for the first time today since it apparently actually shut down.
In other news I flat out cannot get this site to connect on my work laptop anymore. No firewall notices or anything. Just a chrome message that it can’t connect. Works fine on the app and via Safari on my phone though.
I have the emoji button, but I can’t figure out how to actually use it! I can see all of the emojis there taunting me, but if I don’t know what to type (like : woman_shrugging : without the spaces) then… how do I actually select an emoji from the list??? I have noticed that you can type a colon and then a word that might describe the emoji you want and if you guess right or close then the software will make suggestions. But how to select one from the menu confounds me. ![]()
Agree. Or if I was catching up on a really long thread I could take a break and remember “I have read through Page 37 of XYZ thread”. I don’t even see post numbers on these threads… where do you see post numbers?
That definitely lessens the pain. Part of the problem with AO was that the “unread” feature was not super reliable.
If you were logged in for 3 or 4 hours but did not catch up in that time (for example because work interfered with your posting / reading ability) it would just go ahead & assume you were caught up. Or there was that bug where it wasn’t updating for like 3 or 4 months for a while. Tom eventually figured that out, but it was a long time.
If the “unread” feature on here is reliable then that will largely mitigate the need for pages. Not totally, but mostly.
There’s a slidey-bar thing on the right of the screen. It’s near the bottom of that.
I too liked 25 ppp. Much easier to figure out which page a particular post was on as I can divide by 25 in my head easier than I can divide by 40.
I like that you can see new posts appear in real time without needing to hit “refresh.”

Hey, I figured out how to use the emojis on the computer. Not my phone though. On the computer you can click on the one you want and it will insert it where ever your cursor was. But that doesn’t work on my phone. ![]()
On mobile, click the hamburger icon, top right of the text box. That will give you the full editor options including the happy face icon you can click on to get at the emojis. ![]()
