Mission style burrito with pork and green chilies
Summary
Back in the day, if you wanted a mission style burrito in Atlanta there was one option: Tortillas. We of course had lots of Mexican restaurants and Mexican fast food, but Tortillas was the only CA style burrito joint in town. It was a dive, but they had all scratch made fillings and had 2 killer housemade sauces (red and green). It achieved cult status among many of us. The proliferation of national burrito chains in every strip mall eventually did them in, and they closed over 20 years ago. ![]()
One of the cult members decided to try to recreate the Tortillas experience. He faithfully recreated the sauces, got the right seasoning on the pintos, and came up with some good protein options. He did only delivery for a while, then opened a stall in a local food market called Bell Street Burritos. The cult members spread the word, and the business has continued to grow. They have 5 brick and mortar restaurants now. I’ll go out of my way to hit one, passing by the national chains on the way.

ETA:
!!!¡!!
A Kind bar, fruit pouch, and cake.
Ramen. At a restaurant, not a cheap packet thing. Pretty nice.
Hot dog, sauerkraut, and a fresh nectarine
Hot apple-cherry-cranberry oat/almond crumble with cold Oreo cookie ice cream on top.
I wish I’d saved some lemons or oranges to zest into it.
I’d bake so much more if I had more people to eat it all.
Twice cooked pork belly at my Sichuan place!
