What’s your Halloween candy-buying strategy?

Do you buy what you like? What you don’t like? Inquiring minds want to know!

  • Buy candy I like so I’ll enjoy the leftovers
  • Buy candy I dislike so I won’t be tempted to eat the leftovers
  • Buy candy my kids like so they’ll eat the leftovers
  • Turn out the lights and don’t answer the door… no candy for you!
  • Some other choice not listed (please describe)
  • 42 bags of Halloween candy

What leftovers?! We almost always run out unless it’s sleeting, and even then we get a good number of kids. Hundreds!

I don’t think we ever had more than 60.

We tend to not have many kids stop by. But I’m always afraid that I might run out. This year I have 30 full size candy bars, a basket of toys, and a few mini milky way bars.

Full size choc bars, whatever is on sale, plus pixie sticks this year. Plus some extra for the neighbourhood kids.

Last year, we had two or three doorbells…so, perhaps a dozen kids total. This year I’m going Scrooge on the bit, drawing the shades, and not answering the door. Bah humbug. My dogs don’t cooperate, either and are a total pita whenever anything “new” enters their circle of influence. Daughter has suggested she might put out a self serve bowl.

We got full-size candy, so confident we won’t run out…

Whelp… it’s raining. This is not good.

You needed to allow multiple choices. We buy what we and the kid like. We might have bought 42 bags of candy.

If you like it select that option. I guess with the “kid likes” option I meant to imply “kid likes but I do not like”.

Hip_tiger_wife bought a bag of cheap toys. She divided them into 5 numbered bags. Kids at our church trunk-or-treat rolled a die to decide which bag they could pick a toy from. (Rolled 6 = pick one) The kids all seemed quite pleased.

It was cloudy the whole time here, but no rain. Warm too!

I mostly buy stuff that we like, but I also have a 2nd bowl of nut free stuff which is always popular with the neighborhood kids.

Always buy what i am content to eat myself.

I usually way overbuy.

I am ready for ~144 kids w full size stuff. So far only 12-15. Today is the coldest day we have had by like 10-20 degrees and it snowed half the day. I am thinking id rather fun size stuff for the level of leftovers i expect.

We give out fun size, but I spread them out on a table and tell kids to pick 3.

Pretty cold here. Upper 50’s. I’ll be weighing in heavy (heavily?) next Wednesday.

These kids keep coming, no end in sight. Might have to do some extreme rationing.

In the nearly 40 years we’ve been in this house, we have averaged less than 1 visitor per year with a mode of 0. Most was probably 5 one year. So we just buy a small bag of stuff we like just in case and eat that the next week.

You live here?

I wouldn’t climb all those steps for a tootsie roll either.
