What is your COVID vaccine position?

This feels like the third or fourth time we’ve covered this.

Apparently your influence isn’t as strong as you thought.

Or your attention span is lacking.

I think you’re confusing debate with discussion

No, I learned in this thread that you have Jedi mind trick abilities and that’s why you won’t give any input beyond “interesting” and statements led with “probably.”

That’s probably interesting. Or maybe not.

I think you’re confused by the idea either one is being done by the OP, much less done in good faith.

Starring Sally Fields?

Who?

I saw GIGO and was thinking Gidget. The little girl with big ideas. Sorry about that.

Interesting, I remember reading an article by a food critic that argued something similar. Basically, to do his job better, he forced himself eat all the foods he didn’t like about 7 times, to get used to it. Never thought about small quantities but that makes a lot of sense.

It apparently advice based on research, although I don’t know the source. But from experience, it’s a lot less adversarial to tell a kid “you just need to have a taste of this” than to tell a kid, “you need to eat this portion”. I have a friend whose parents called it a “no thank you helping”.

Also, forcing kids to eat substantive amounts of food can drift into over-eating or other disordered relationships with food. I mean, there aren’t a ton of calories in spinach, but it’s just not a great general approach to take, imho.

I believe the point of the poll was to push the idea that vaccine mandates = force.

So, wait until AFTER you’ve infected my mother. Cool.

I am hopeful that there are some better options than just waiting for people to not change their minds. Because people who avoid vaccination and then read lots of fake information about how vaccination makes your balls swell up and who start to identify as “a person who doesn’t want to be vaccinated” is really unlikely to change their mind just because time has passed.

Frankly, I’ve given up. I am just avoiding people who refuse to be vaccinated and waiting until they all have some immunity because they’ve caught covid. And if they get long covid, or die, oh well, sucks to be them. Several months ago I was more interested in convincing the vaccine hesitant to get vaccinated. Now I just want to make sure that there aren’t barriers (like being dinged for missing work) for people who have decided they DO want to be vaccinated, and the devil can take the rest.

Believe what you want.

First, I don’t know your mother, and I doubt I’ll ever meet her. So my chances of infecting her are pretty close to zero.

Second, didn’t you say somewhere that your mother has already been vaccinated? If she needs protection against COVID beyond that, she should take steps to avoid all strangers, vaccinated or not.

Third, I did give you some better options, which you’ve ignored.

patience is not a better option. encouraging people to share anti-vax articles on Facebook is an even worse option. Getting Fauci to never talk to the press is extremely unlikely to go any good. That’s pretty much what you’ve suggested.

My mother is immune compromised. And old. Yes, covid is still a significant danger to her, despite three doses of vaccine. And she doesn’t have a lot of life left in her, so locking her up for the rest of it is not an attractive option – especially to her.

So she takes risks. And yes, people who refuse to get vaccinated increase her risks. Their freedom to swing their arms actually does hit her in the face. But you do you.

There was more.
