I looked the song up. Interesting trivia on Suicide Is Painless. Altman had the title, but wanted the lyrics to be “the stupidest song ever written” and Johnny Mandel was having a hard time coming up with something he felt was stupid. So Altman had his 15 year old son write the lyrics in 5 minutes. Altman received only $70,000 for directing the film, but his son made over $1million in royalties for co-writing the song.
Yeah, I had heard that before. Most of the son’s revenue was from TV show royalties, which is a little ironic since the TV theme song had no lyrics, it was an instrumental version.
Started up new season of “The White Lotus.” Not impressed by the attire or lack of same so far. will probably watch one every couple of days until we catch up.
Finished this a few days ago. As smartly written as I remember.
The final movie was probably the worst “episode,” so if making a general grading, A-F, I’d give it a C+, as the closing credits save it.
The rest of the series was quite good. A- on average.
Running Point - Netflix - Family (bros and sister) owns one of the largest basketball franchises, drama ensues everywhere.
finished that last week. was solid.
Started:
6 Feet Under - Netflix (or Max). One episode in and…one episode in.
-
The Good Place on Netflix.
Kristen Bell and Ted Danson are the known actors. The rest are very enjoyable. Plus there’s philosophy! -
Schitt’s Creek
I don’t remember their names but the matriarch and patriarch of the family are known actors, as well as the Mayor of the town. Much humor and several quite touching character arcs.
i’ve done both, thank you
both also improve over time, she wouldn’t have gone back after season 1
I watched this while it was originally aired.
IMHO, the best two seasons were the 1st and last, which is somewhat unusual for the life of a TV drama. There are some low points to get through, in the late middle seasons.
Also, I found that when I was recently bingeing Sons of Anarchy, it was a little dismal to watch several episodes a week of such a dark show. 6 Feet would also qualify for that. An hour per week was a tolerable dosage of death and thanatopsis. Trying to work through 6 or 8 eps in a week might really be a downer.
Good place is an all time fave.
schitts creek - dad is eugene levy. son is daniel levy. mom is catherine o’hara.mayor is chris elliott. show was light and good. i didn’t love the last 2 seasons but watched for completeness.
Looking forward to Bosch: Legacy season 3 coming in two weeks or so. Will watch WOT in mean time.
Through the first 2 seasons of Slow Horses. Two more to go. Very good.
ETA: season 3 completed today. Season 4 hopefully tomorrow. Gets better each season.
Honey West - Youtube 1960’s series starring Anne Francis. Most episodes have terrible video but a few have been nicely remastered, the pilot episode is one example. Honey is a PI with partner Sam played by John Ericson and pet Ocelot Bruce. Guest starring appearances by Dick Clark, Wayne Rogers and many others.
I watched a few episodes of Honey West in the ‘60s and have no strong desire to rewatch them.
Binged this again tonight. It’s so wholesome and laugh out loud cringe funny.
I understand that point of view. As a long-time fan of detective dramas, I find the early examples interesting. Also, the fact that Honey West was the first to feature a female protagonist is a plus for me. That, combined with the bite-sized 25-minute episodes made this a fun watch for me.
I just finished watching the available episodes from the 30-episode season. Next up, I think that I’ll catch up on missed episodes of NCIS.
I think I’m going to cave and get Apple TV. People at work keep talking about Severance.
Have started watching The Leopard series on Netflix. Entertaining adaptation of the book about the impact of Italian unification on a royal Sicilian family.
The same as the 1960s Burt Lancaster Italian film?
