Started watching Bodies on Netflix. It follows police investigations into murders in 4 different time periods (1896, 1941, 2023 and 2053). The catch is the dead bodies in each time period appear to be the same person. There is also some underlying time travel maybe. Very interesting so far.
OK, I watched the first episode of the Mike Tyson Mysteries. Pretty weird. The look is 100% Scooby Doo. About 80% of the humor was Mike Tyson either mispronouncing stuff or just misunderstanding stuff. Which makes you wonder 1) are the mispronuniciations intentional or just how he read the script? 2) does Mike Tyson realize the main point of the series is to goof on him? Was he ok with that? The payoff was actually pretty humorous in that 1) it kind of made no sense at all (but not really in a Scooby Doo way) 2) even though it made no sense, everything referred back to stuff that was said earlier in the episode, so there was an incredibly odd sense of closure. I donât know if this will stand up to repeated episodes, but I didnât feel the first one was a complete waste of time.
To give you an idea of the weirdness, the (sort of) bad guy in the first episode was revealed to be John Updike.
OK, two thumbs up for Mike Tyson Mysteries. In the second one Mike Tyson kills Bobby Fischer and the bad guy is robot Thomas J Watson.
Finished watching Bodies. Pretty well done. Flagged a little in the last episode. Definitely involves time travel. 4 detectives in different eras investigating the same dead body. Newly dead in all 4 eras.
started S3 of Righteous Gemstones. itâs ok. interesting how the story and peripheral stuff evolves with plausibly related entities while the 3 main characters remain consistently caricature-level morons
Mike Tyson was good enough to order season 2.
I finally finished Peaky Blinders.
I think it was better than the Sopranos, which is the most appropriate show for comparison.
I liked the plot twist in the last season that was totally reminiscent of Tom Hanksâ Joe Vs The Volcano with the âBrain Cloudâ
That brings back memories! Campy movie.
Well, there are still 2 weeks left of free Apple tv, so I started Ted Lasso. I doubt if I will get through 3 seasons in 2 weeks. I may have to pay for a month or two.
I also watched an episode of Zoeyâs Extraordinary Playlist. You couldnât tell from the first episode whether it was going to be interesting or annoying in the long run.
Started watching Good Omens with the kids so we can all watch season 2 eventually.
I enjoyed it, but as it went on, it became clearer that the show was written to use music rather than the other wat around.
Petrocelli - last nightâs episode had Harrison Ford (pre-Star Wars) and William Shatner (post-Star Trek).
The Curious Case of Natalia Grace on HBO. Maaaaan this is all kinds of WTFery.
Gem quote from this show: âit was as close as Iâve been to a third suicide attempt since the second one.â So many layers of ridiculous in that statement.
started S3 of Reservation Dogs.
like the show. the kids are great. one thing that bugs me already in S3 is that while I get they are not worldly, but they stumble into stupid errors you can see a mile away without remembering that their lack of carefulness bit them on the ass like 5 minutes ago.
Finished S1 of Succession. everyone in it is sooo detestable i am not sure I can keep coming back to see how awful they can be to each other.
Finshed Rez Dogs. The kids grew in maturity 1Mx in S3 (so my prior comment about naivete could have been intentional prepping for the growth).
Started latest season of Fargo. Interesting for sure.
Started watching Beef. 4 episodes in out of 10. So likely will finish owing to low commitment. Itâs ok
But that is a big part of its appeal. You just love to hate these folks.
Or, it isnât.
A finale that doesnât have them all on a bus flying over a cliff is a disappointing one.
We can compare it to, say, The Sopranos. Similar feel about the characters, but there is still some humanity interspersed with the killings.
No humanity at all with Succession. Christ, just take your trust fund and get out of that family!
Have started watching the first season of True Detective. Love the interplay of the Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey characters. Great acting.
