Finished Season 1 of The Bear (Hulu). Probably will watch the next season.
That was a huge Deus Ex Machina.
Season 2, a few ep’s in:
Claire from out of the blue seems quite a plot thickener. Too much IMO. Seems quite manipulative, and she will obviously suck up too much of Carmy’s time, even though she also has a job that keeps her too busy, and the writing of her character is repeating what others say. Is that a thing that people do IRL?
Oh, and the way-too-often establishing shots of Chicago are not necessary, if only to fill out a half-hour (and to cut if this expletive-filled show makes it to a commercial-filled network). We get it, they’re in Chicago. Shit-ton of Copenhagen shots, too. One is plenty.
I watched two episodes so far of season 3 of Only Murder In The Building and so far I’m a little disappointed. The first episode seemed largely expository. And what wasn’t expository seemed to be randomly jarring, The one really good part was just that they fixed the “hey that murder wasn’t in the building”. That was kind of funny. The second one had stuff happen jarringly, too, especially Charles and Mabel getting abducted, then almost immediately rescued without any real tension.
Bingeing “The Afterparty.”
It’s alright. I could do without the extended singing bits. They don’t really add anything except showing off some writers’ acumen. But there is a mystery or two to be solved here.
Sam Richardson is great in this, as he was in Veep and several other shows.

HOLY SHIT! He was Edwin Akufo in “Ted Lasso”!
My wife is a murder mystery fan and finally persuaded me to watch an episode of Only Murders in the Building. It was addictive and we are now starting Season 3.
I have enjoyed Steve Martin and Martin Short (the main actors) for about 50 years so my favourable impression of the series may be tinged a bit by my respect for them as comics. It is interesting to see a murder mystery presented in a comedy series.
I think it is hard for a series of this type to stay fresh? Each season is formulaic: a murder is committed in the apartment building, there are many potential suspects, one or more suspects are scrutinized each episode and then dismissed, and in the final episode someone you didn’t suspect turns out to be the killer!
The acting is good. I am biased in this regard as I used to see Martin Short and Andrea Martin (and many other Second City comedians) when they were starting their careers at the Old Firehall Theatre in Toronto in the 1970’s. John Candy, Eugene Levy, Rick Moranis, Dan Ackroyd, etc., also performed in that intimate venue then so I have always felt a personal connection to these Canadian comedians. In other words, I may not be objective!
The show also has Steve Martin, Paul Rudd and Meryl Streep in Season 3 so that doesn’t hurt!
Could be what her character’s voice is. Chosen by her or chosen by others. Who knows. Vocal range is about 1/8 of an octave. She is/was also a professional singer.
My husband watched the entire Gilmore Girls series, including a year in the life, over the last few weeks. He probably wouldn’t admit it, but I think he liked it.
My wife and our youngest daughter watched every episode of Gilmore Girls together when it was first on. I understood the appeal to them but could not get into it myself.
