Wednesday Weekly Weigh-in

50 lbs in 9 months? doesn’t seem concerning

Probably just concern that I have an eating disorder or something - she seemed satisfied when I counted out every calorie for the day, beginning with 10 almonds at 6 AM.

And alcohol has an effect on base metabolism as well. Slows down the digestion or something. Probably causes the storage of fat instead of burning it.

Summary

I didn’t bother to save my weight history from the ao before it got canned. I started making an effort to drop some weight in late 2018 when I hit 206. Was between 180-185 for most of 2020. I’d look best around 160, but I am not willing yet to make the concessions on diet and exercise to get there. I like to eat well and I know what it takes to get me to 160. I think 170ish is a good goal for now.

Highest adult weight was 235 and lowest was 160. Both were over 20 years ago. I’m 5’11"

I had gotten out of the habit of the weekly weigh in since the ao died, so starting over.

Why ideal to wait? Weightlifting is good for you even if the scale shifts up a little in the process. It will help you lose more weight in the long run and will improve your health, too.

Speaking of, I need to get back into it. I stopped for over a year because of surgery, and there are things I’ll never be able to do again, like barbell squats, but I should do better about lifting after work in the gym - there’s never anyone there anymore, so it’s perfect.

More importantly, it will help to lose fat, which should be the main goal.
Diet is important here, too. More protein, less garbage (shitty carbs) food.

I dunno, I could still focus on my diet until then. Eating low carb plenty of protein and mostly whole foods. Once I get active I tend to eat a lot and not always the best but at the same time being active is probably worth it. Hopefully I’d continue to eat well.

That’s pretty crazy that you keep going lower. I dropped 20 pounds pretty easily but it seems like i am now in the -0.5 pound range a week. Which is fine. I’ll get to a bmi of around 22-23, don’t need to get much lower than that.

The backslide continues. My ex-wife got sick last Wednesday, so I had the kids every day over the past week except for Monday, which is awesome but not necessarily optimal for calorie intake.

My partner has lost 12+ pounds since February 1, I’m very proud of them. I’m not sure their goal weight but I think it’s at least 25, maybe 35 pounds total lost.

Hit my target #1. That’s 5.2 pounds down in 5 weeks, which makes sense since I’ve been targeting a 1,000 kcal per day deficit. Even though I’ve gone up and down a little in that time it was mostly due to the proximity of eating salty foods close to weigh in day. I’m going to start adding 500+ kcal of protein rich food now and try to work out regularly, see where that takes me (extra serving of chicken and a protein shake maybe)

We use a brand of protein powder, “ISO 100 Hydrolyzed” that was recommended to me by a good gymbro friend. I’m quite happy with it, 25 grams protein for 110 calories, which means 10 calories of other-than-protein.

I just had a scoop alongside a 320 calorie breakfast = 430 calories, and that’ll last me to lunch. Sometimes I’ll have a handful of almonds if needed, more protein.

Probably just too much salt last night. I’m going to be out of town the next 2 Wednesdays. Might make an interim weigh in post in 10 days or so.

I haven’t ever gone for protein powders, but I have found almonds to be a great snack option. Blue Diamond has some really interesting flavors on Amazon…you can find these in small tins at the grocery store but the value there is low.

Of course, portion is still important since they are calorie dense, but a handful (I think ~20 is a serving) really kills hunger for a few hours between meals.

I’m allergic to almonds, but I find peanuts and peanut butter to be a very filling snack.
