I did the blood work, lab results overview with a nurse, and am getting the supplements of this program. I had a suspicion that I am on my way to diabetes (all males on mom and dad side have it), and I want to prevent it. I saw a Joe Rogan episode with Brigham Buhler, the creator of Ways2Well, and have a few friends that started with this and recommended it.

So far the cost is:
$600 for the initial blood work and visit with a health coach
$105 in supplements for 3 months (Vitamin D, Milk Thistle, Digestive enzymes, B12 Folate)
$??? CT scan for a calcium score for plaque buildup.

Maybe my weight will get another bump down with the additional exercise and supplements.

Other things I can do:
Reduce red meat
Give blood more often
Drink less
More weight training

I’ll check back in ~3 months with the new blood work.

Did you ask your actual doctor about this first? They can provide lots of ideas, but the good starting point of eating healthier, being more active, and getting better sleep are going to be the standard advice.

Seems kind of silly to pay money for other advice unless you have already been there and done that.

for $300 i can tell you to eat better and drink less. and increase weight bearing exercise (including weights).

and a multi vitamin and milk thistle for liver function (didn’t seem to help me but whatever).

im kidding - whatever plan makes sense to you and you can keep it is likely a good one. this doesn’t sound extreme or bonkers at all.

on your family members with the betes - how is your body mass compared to theirs? were they people who exercised like you have?

This sounds a lot like another product/service that I use called InsideTracker. I have been using it for the last 1.5 years or so and it has definitely helped me identify areas that I need to improve upon. The cost is worth it, to me, but others will poopoo on it.

More power to you. Consistency will be key.

I’m using it as another check - W2W did a lot more blood tests, all at once, and has customized AI-level supplement programs. I am sure they are making $$$ off of me. My health insurance/providers would have taken months.

If you have any other money you’d like to incinerate, call me first.

I’m sorry, I can’t take anything with Milk Thistle supplements seriously. I mean thistles don’t have nipples do they?

I am skeptical of a lot of these alternative wellness companies. My ex paid a few hundred bucks to have some place look at her blood under a microscope. I wasn’t terribly happy with this at the time, but she was looking for answers and unwilling to consider her minimal activity levels and desire to have unhealthy amounts of ice cream daily were some good places to start. She ignored me on this, asker her cousin about it who was a vet who also told her what she described was complete bullshit.

Brain Balance is another one. Kid with ADHD? Step 1: get them off their device. Step 2: get them outside. People take them more seriously because they are paying hundreds of dollars a month so they have made the financial commitment compared with the widely available free advice you can find that your doctor tells you.

Took me a long time of feeling remarkably shitty to give up alcohol. A pill for blood pressure, a pill for reflux, a bunch of other things to try and sleep better (I had a sleep study done for restless legs, which I now think was probably related to regular drinking). They all worked for a while, until they didn’t. I am sure I could have found a place to feed me some more fixes, and maybe they would have worked for a while as well.

I still don’t sleep well today unless I get more than 10k steps a day. I need some level of physical tiredness to get through 7 hours. Took 40+ years to figure this out, but its completely obvious - humans evolved to travel by foot and built communities in a way where a fair bit of walking was required daily.

Anyway, make sure you keep an eye on their suggestions, and look for information on real medical website and not just ones that are attached to advertising for supplements and channeling you into more.

The father males in my family are all Vietnam vets. They smoked their entire lives and were exposed to Agent Orange. None of my male cousins smoke, nor were we exposed to Agent Orange. I am sure that the Orange is in our systems in some way.

I believe one of the keys to “better health” is being held accountable for your choices. Sure there are cheap ways of doing this . . . but I’ve also found that those who sink a considerable amount of $$$ into an “accountability” program usually end up forcing themselves into being more accountable than when there’s “nothing at steak stake”.

this sounds an awful lot like what I proposed to @Tiffany when she was considering forking out 5 grand plus a couple of hundred a month for a Tonal membership.

I believed you used the word “spank” instead of “kick” . . . which is most likely why she refused the offer.

Better than “milk”

Uhhh what is this for exactly? I clicked on the link and got overwhelmed and bombarded by sales tactics so I didn’t really read anything. I’m wondering why you just don’t get routine bloodwork from your doctor.

The $600 was well less than the cost of the exact same tests through my health insurance. And, second opinion.
