USA Men's Soccer Thread

Are you watching a day later?

Yes. Busy yesterday.
Should have with the Spanish-language broadcast.

That should be a big enough lead for the 2nd leg??

Honduras beat Mexico 2-0 (in Honduras). That makes game 2 interesting.

USMNT play tonight in T&T, though not at the same venue as 2017.
U17’s play overnight vs Germany. Not expecting a good result for US.

Looking at the Copa America seedings, based on FIFA Rankings: USA (11)and MEX (12) would be in Pot 1 as of today, though MEX would have to win their match, I think. Else they will be denoted as one of the Play-in teams, probably in Pot 4.

Opener (ATL, adding grass) and Final (MIA - Dolphins Stadium) venues have been picked. Still hoping that Kranky gets shut out in favor of The Rose Bowl, because his stadium’s field is too small.

Sweet.

And I would expect them to get about two more matches, cuz why do that for only one match (though it will likely be USA, hosts usually get the first match).

Dest became completely unhinged there. That’s about the stupidest double yellow you will ever see. It was so well deserved I have no idea what he was beefing about. That has to move him down the priority list a bit IMO.

It would, but he’s the best option for USA at his position.
Let’s see what Berhalter says at the next leadership speaking engagement…

USMNT play JAM in semi-final.
CAN play T&T.

All in the Dallas Area. Wondering if AT&T will put in grass for the days. Pretty sure they won’t raise the floor and play on a properly-sized field, as they will be required to do for the WC2026. Would be a good time to test that set-up.

I imagine raising the field like that would be at too great a cost for a couple of matches. Temporary grass was likely a requirement for hosting.

How many matches do you think ATT will be hosting at WC2026? Probably no more than four, which is how many matches will be at ATT for Nations League.
Ego Factor was not included in this simple analysis, though. JJ needs to beat Cranky and Mara in the Big Dick contests at the NFL meetings.

We won’t know until we see the schedule, but IIRC AT&T and Mercedes Benz were semifinal sites in the original pitch book. IIRC they pitched those sites hosting around 6 games I think. They will all likely be packed stadiums at high prices.

I found my prior post where I summarized some of the details from the pitch book

LA was the only city scheduled to get 7.

Of course that was just the pitch, so it’s all subject to change. I’d imagine LA, DAL, and ATL will all get a large share of matches.

ETA: the original pitch book was with 80 matches. Since the format changed, there are now 104 matches.

I think Canada may have taken Jamaica too lightly given previous Toronto home field results. The Jamaican player who scored the winning goal last night plays for Fulham FC and he was very impressive in the match I went to. They have several other players in Europe.

Antonio on WHU.

Leon Bailey and Demarco Gray have been around for a bit.

I would bet Panama takes care of Mexico. Too bad they don’t have to qualify. This could have been a tough time for them.

Copa America draw is in. Our group is:

USA
Uruguay
Panama
Bolivia

Failing to get out of the group would be a significant failure. Panama have been good lately but it’s on our turf with our best players. A win is a must.

Anything other than a multi-goal win vs Bolivia at home would be embarrassing.

Uruguay should be interesting but we should advance regardless of our match result against them.

Ultimately semi-finals should be the minimum goal here. Avoiding Brazil and Argentina will determine our chances of getting to the final.

Other group on our side of the knockout bracket: Brazil, Colombia, Paraguay, (Costa Rica or Honduras). And that 1st group stage game is vs. Uruguay. No pressure there, but a loss almost certainly kills our chances of winning the group and means advancing out of the group stage is very likely rewarded with Brazil in the QF. Even if it’s not Brazil of legendary lore and Neymar isn’t there, it’s still Brazil and that aura looms large.

Mexico has a pretty favorable draw. Win the group, they very likely miss Argentina until the semis and none of Peru, Chile and (Canada or Trinidad/Tobago) seem overly scary. Though, it’s Mexico and El Tri are struggling to get it together so they could finish anywhere from 1st and into the semis to out at the group stage and nowhere close to making it through.

Bump, for Gio Reyna, again.

Needs to find somewhere that his parents have not blackballed him from.

USMNT C loses to Slovenia, a B Nations League team in Europe, and probably not their A team.

TNTs score bug needs improvement.

Both teams are on the score bug as white, so which team is playing in white?
