United States Presidential & Congressional Election 2024

“There’s my boy, Tim”

Arizona will probably lead the nation again in the greatest number of whackadoodle candidates. This one race for a single seat in Congress is going to require a lot of

Sorry, but the Shaman is vegan, which means he eats soy, which means he’s trans, so he can’t be in the GOP.

I don’t make the rules, they did.

This kind of rhetoric is why I am concerned about Trump winning.

It’s much more than rhetoric – Project 2025 lays out a very detailed plan to implement a lot of what Trump is advocating. And more to the point, have Trump loyalty be more important than conservative credentials for political appointees, and also replace large numbers of non-political staff who in theory can’t be fired with Trump loyalists.

in theory can’t be fired
[/quote] Yes. Ordinary presidents get 4,000 political appointees. That’s not enough for Trump.

The Trump administration figured out that they really can fire lots of civil service workers. It took 3 years and 9 months before the EO establishing Schedule F employees.
This time, it will be on Day 1.

I’ve seen this ad several times now. It basically calls Haley a huge China supporter, and that she ignores national security issues to give favorable deals to the Chinese. Thought that was an odd ad buy for DeSantis at this point.

It’s becoming a little more clear now why based on this story that ran in the Miami Herald

I’m seeing and predict support for Haley to continue to die off rapidly.

She was always on the bubble of being a serious contender unlike Christie. Could have been vaulted into the DeSantis pedestal of “Well if Trump dies, I guess.”

Her proposal to verify the identity of all social media users wrecked her in the Tea Party/Libertarian wing of the GOP. Being a UN globalist and a woman were already black marks. I frequently see “Democrat” and “RINO” thrown at her, more than DeSantis or Ramaswamy for example.

Maybe I’m an up and coming boomer but this didn’t strike me as such a bad idea

Continue to? Her numbers are going up. They started out low, to be sure, but they’re going up. She’s in third place behind Trump & DeSantis, whereas she started out behind several other candidates too.

The money is consolidating behind her as the anti-Trump candidate.

DeSantis will never out-Trump Trump. So he would definitely lose.

Women would vote for Haley over Trump. In droves.

I see her unfavourability has risen. Favorability has pretty much stayed flat after a temporary bump.

As candidates drop out, there will be a condensing effect toward the remnants. I could be wrong but I don’t see MAGA voting for a UN “swamp creature”.

Potentially, but this also outs every right-wing militia across the country.

Shoulda kept their noses clean! :judge:

Yeah, I don’t love her chances or anything, but I don’t think it’s fair to say “continue to die off” when she’s climbing in both position and favorability.

I’d rather see Christie win the nomination than Haley, but either of them are many light years ahead of Trump or DeSantis or Ramaswamy…

I’m relying on my subjective view of online chatter and media attitudes. Conservative Reddit is astroturfed and helpful to know what the super PACs and think tanks are pushing this month. Nikki Haley is getting more negative ads, which tells me that the Trump/MAGA and DeSantis crowds are getting a little nervous.

Overall, by virtue of her being a woman running in the GOP and working for the UN, I predict MAGA won’t go for her. I expect she sticks it out until only DeSantis, Ramaswamy, and perhaps Christie out of stubbornness remain. Perhaps she’ll angle for a cabinet position or VP should Trump die before election. I don’t see her wanting to be in Trump’s cabinet, but maybe what spine she appears to have will crumble.

That much I agree with.

In other news, Happy Birthday Joseph Biden who turns 81. Just don’t expect any celebrations that would remind people how old he is.

Seems that people are finally starting to forcefully speak out about how bad a second Trump Presidency could damage US Democracy.

I wouldn’t say in droves. In larger numbers than they would DeSantis or anyone else? Yeah, but still nothing near what would be needed to swing numbers to the point she gets momentum, because … it’s not a cult, it’s just a large group of people who will believe everything one person says and will do his bidding, overly or complicitly, for his self-enrichment, without questioning anything he says or does no matter how harmful it is to them.
