United States Presidential & Congressional Election 2024

Actually rereading it myself, i think he was just referring to political ads on all TV in IA.

The ā€œandsā€ are important.

I just start watching the recording 30-60 minutes after the beginning of the game and skip the commercials and half-time and usually catch up to live TV by the end of the game. And I can pause the game whenever I need to visit the facilities or grab a bite.

Though, the Superbowl is one game where I do actually watch the commercials which are often better than the game itself.

I was recently in Iowa and it seemed half or more of the commercials were presidential race commercials. That is a bit over the top if you ask me. I wonder if that helps the TV stations generate revenue or just makes it so their ad department doesn’t have to work so hard scrounging up every type of advertisement they can find?

A littlle of both.
They probably don’t have enough available spots for all the ads they get.

Also, 30-60 minutes? I usually wait at least 2.5 hours. But then, I skip the time between plays and stoppages for injuries and flags.

I’d imagine ad blocks are priced seasonally, so they likely just set ā€œ$X for this blockā€ and adjust if they don’t get enough bites. But I’m speculating.

I do the same thing you do – record the game and start watching the recording about a half hour after the start. I can skip commercials. It’s surprising to me that I get interested in the game and forget I’m on delay.

But, the Super Bowl is the one game where I don’t do that.

Yes, lots of political ads. I watch live TV mostly for evening news. ā€œAbout halfā€ is accurate 12 weeks out from the R caucus. For the news shows, we use the mute button a lot.

I’ve mentioned before that I was surprised that Tim Scott’s ads looked effective to me. But, apparently he hasn’t caught on.

Tangent – I got a mailing yesterday that was anti-Haley (too soft on China). That’s a first for negative mailings for non-Trump candidates. Paid for by the DeSantis PAC.

I have to believe there have been enough caucus driven ads over the years to allow higher charges per minute.

usually great. but I had a bottle of their Maple Ale and broke it out to share. one guy described it as drinking your pancakes. it was so maply. i will drink almost anything and i poured it out after 3 sips. big swing and miss for something i was looking forward to

Trump a) figured out that the word us is spelled U.S, like our country, and b) thought that that was worth sharing with his audience on a campaign stop. I don’t want to hear anything more about Biden’s mental fitness.

Was this one of the tests on his dementia exam?

(Hold on a sec - Man, woman, person, camera, TV. Phew, I’m still a genius.)

The former. Presidential election years fund the other three years at a lot of tv stations.

I skip the time between plays and injuries. I do like to hear what the commentators & referee say about flags though, so I don’t fast forward if I notice there’s a flag.

You skip the time between injuries?

Heh

Eh. It was a flag for something obvious depending on where it’s thrown.
Yawn.

Just saw a Nikki Haley hit piece commercial, funded by a DeSantis PAC. Weird.

Called her a ā€œPakiā€?

Calling her a huge China supporter, giving all sorts of special deals to the Chinese.

In all fairness, the DeSantis campaign makes Rick Perry and Jeb Bush look like they had competent campaigns. Make historical Republicans great again I guess.

I read the feature article (gifted below) on Kamala Harris in last Sunday’s New York Times magazine.

In addition to the reasons discussed earlier in this thread for her poor poll ratings, I concluded she was also a poor communicator. She completely blew her opportunity to present her vision (if she has one) to the Times interviewer. If she can’t get a favourable article from the Times, what hope is there for her?
