Another thing I wondered about in terms of backlash: there are lots of Haitian Americans in FL. I wonder if this might boost turnout there against Trump.
Probably, but Trump won Florida by 400k votes in 2020, and there are 550k total Haitians in Florida, many of whom are probably not citizens. If half are eligible to vote, and there is a 10% increase in voter turnout, that is only 27.5k more votes.
Side note: the 2023 census estimate is 5k Haitians in all of Ohio. I’ve seen it argued that the 20k in Springfield number that the press is using as fact comes from the Heritage foundation.
And yet, Kamala “put out” (Trump’s words, and he said that he said it), and that’s bad.
This is actually how social media works. In order to get attention and likes, you need to say/write really extreme stuff. That’s why twitter and the like is so toxic, because the algorithms simply reward the craziest stuff.

Most political influencers on the right are absolute lunatics who have risen to fame by saying extreme stuff. You can thank twitter, facebook, youtube, etc. It’s mostly just making up wild stories to scare people and boost impressions. Trump and Vance’s methods are very much born out of what works on social media.

Social media posts allegedly belonging to Routh indicate he was a believer in COVID-19 conspiracy theories, and he had posted that he had voted for Trump in 2016 but was disappointed with him after the fact, expressing support for Tulsi Gabbard in various posts.
He wanted a Ramaswamy and Haley ticket this election.
He donated to ActBlue back in 2020 up through March. NY Post and MAGA is calling him a Dem/ Dem donor, but likely he was donating to Gabbard who dropped out March 19th 2020.
