United States Presidential & Congressional Election 2024

I think they should take a serious look at Mark Kelley. He would completely neutralize JD Vance imo. He’s an astronaut. Everyone loves astronauts. Plus he has a D governor to name his replacement.

Roy Cooper is another possibility. I think he is almost termed out anyway so he will be looking for a new gig.

He failed to seem completely unaged compared to his 2020 self. Totally understandable. But the delta for someone 56 to 60 vs 77 to 81 is different and the extension another 4 yrs is what you are selling. Absent that vitality you are asking people to vote for your team/vp materially and then you might as well have them be at the front of the ticket imo.

Trump should be painted nonstop as old and confused and letting dangerous people have their way around him while he attends to a retribution tour only. Makes him scary (accurately so imo)

Even before the debate, seeing Biden doing things, he looked so old the way he moved. When he speaks, it’s a struggle to hear him. Basically, he looks and sounds like someone in his 80s and there’s pretty much no way it is going to get better and there’s a high probability it gets worse. It’s the sad reality of biology. I saw the same thing happen with my grandparents and with other people I know in their 80s.

I’m dealing with both my dad and in-laws in the Biden Trump age bracket, and that’s not generally who you should pick as leader. Some folks are still at 95% then and with a wealth of experience, but most are on a steep downhill. Even the ones that are super sharp often won’t be in four years.

Nope. 12th amendment says that you must be eligible to be president in order to run for vice president.

I don’t see Whitmer on that list. I thought she was interesting, especially since MI is a swing state.

I can see that some of these people just say it is too late to catch up. They have a better chance of being president if they wait for 2028. (assuming any D can get electoral votes counting in 2028).

With breathtaking speed, she took control of Mr. Biden’s enormous political operation and contacted Democratic leaders in Congress and state houses to ask for their support. The Biden campaign formally renamed itself “Harris for President,” giving her immediate access to an account that had $96 million in cash at the end of June. On an internal call, the Biden campaign’s leaders told staff members that they would now work for Ms. Harris.

Looks like she/they have been thinking about this.

I thought Whitmer was interesting as well.

The challenge there is that the Dems can’t go too hard on that point without looking disingenuous, due to their support of Biden (until recently, at least).

If Harris is the primary i can’t see Whitmer, Newsome, Butegieg or Shapiro

I feel it needs to be a straight, white, Christian, male, from preferably a battleground state, but definitely not CA.

Just say “The American people were right, Biden was too old and we listened. The GOP didn’t and have put up Trump.” Then follow with 45 seconds of confused/stumbling/limping Trump.

I was gonna ask “for which party”, but I see that’s already there. I gotta believe neither party trusts the guy by now.

Did someone say “Mike Pence”?

You know who should run for president? That dude who replaced all those traffic lights with roundabouts in Indiana that’s who.

oops, did i leave out Democrat?
and to be clear, i mean Christian as the religion, not the cult

We aren’t on the inside to see how those decisions were made and how much he led or even participated in them. There has been plenty of press around how he has been more isolated from public off-script interaction in the months leading up to the debate. The debate may have been enough to convince you, but it raised the question in the minds of lots of people.

It was the debate that raised the question, not his decision to pull out of the campaign three weeks later. I’d say his public appearances since the debate were good enough to answer the question about his ability to serve 6 more months. These republicans saying he should resign have witnessed all of that, and are just making up nonsense to feed the base.

We have no real idea how much any president is in involved in the high level decisions. I would assume they all rely on advisors, and they all have the final vote, but range from completely hands off to engaged in debating potential outcomes. Maybe Biden is less engaged now than in 2020, but still more engaged than the average president.

The real issue with these call to resign is that nearly all the reasons apply just as much to Trump, and we are in a vastly better place now with Biden in that he is out of the race while Trump continues on. Pure nonsense unless that same person is going to bothsides this and call for Trump to step down as well (your earlier concerns about Trump noted).

[red font] But but but…Trump has superior genes! He’s omnipotent and protected by G-d, as evidenced by his miraculous avoidance of assassination! He’ll be competent forever! [/red font]
