United States Congressional & Gubernatorial 2022 elections

You are voting for them. Why?

Maybe share the reasons.

Sure they do. Too hard to get across in a soundbite and nobody that matters is really receptive to it though, so they mostly don’t bother. They make the calculation that getting their base out to vote is more important.

There was that inflation reduction act thing.

Someone could argue that the dem’s ideas wouldn’t work, but to say they have nothing is disingenuous.

Im voting Republican in Senate and Democrat in Congress. I am generally conservative. Democrats ideas tend too much towards something for nothing. It’s not healthy economically. Our House candidate however is a MAGA wannabe. I won’t vote for her. We don’t have any other races in Indiana. My Econ professor in college ran on the Republican primary ticket this year for our House district. Had he won I would have voted for him and sent 2 R’s to Congress. We also have a really good Republican mayor in Jeffersonville, IN that I will be voting for. Most of the good options in this part of the world are in the Republican Party. It is what it is.

You mean the Medicare Part D reform act? That has good legislation even though it’s going to create a ton of work for me over the next 3 years. That won’t do anything about inflation though.

Honestly only new taxes would bring down inflation seriously. Neither party is abdicating that do neither group is going to fix inflation.

How is voting for Republicans that will once again just introduce excessive, unfunded liabilities a solution for Inflation?

Why would anyone that is concerned at all about inflation, a balanced budget or any fiscally responsible principles ever vote for a republican based on how they have governed over the past 40+ years?

You honestly have to be stupid, ignorant of history, and/or easily tricked if you are voting for republicans to help the economy.

Ghost of Ronald Reagan is still haunting us apparently. Just in time for Halloween! It blows my mind that anybody still believes in trickle-down b.s.

It was refreshing that folks in the UK didn’t buy Liz Truss’ trickledown economics policies.

I was heartened by that as well. Not sure how it works over there - do the Tories pick a new leader or will there be an election?

Tories pick yet another new leader. Don’t have to have another election but two leaders on from the last election will increase the pressure for one.

This is basically why I support Ds on the national level.

Conversely, were you fan of the 2017 tax cuts? I was not a fan, because imo, you don’t use debt to temporarily stimulate the economy during an upswing. Maybe it’s just a coincidence that we elect Republicans at the wrong time, but they always want to stimulate the economy when it shouldn’t be stimulated.

(That’s all aside from the Trump culture war shit, which is a new unrelated reason to support Ds.)

And a reason more important than all the others.

Yeah, I agree. At this point, I’m basically a one issue voter. Pro-Democracy.

Admittedly, my version of that pushes me a little towards the right. Instead of being a progressive I’d rather people chill the **** out.

I’ve been vaguely trying to figure out today if Herschel Walker might have killed one of his exes.

I don’t really a particularly good reason to believe so, just one of those “too much time on the internet” things.

I’m mainly interested in having good people in Congress. The kind of people in either party who would be a yes vote on a bill with bipartisan support. The kind of people who would stand up and do the right thing on a day like 1/6/2021. That’s why I am choosing the 2 people I am voting for.

Also yes I am a big fan of the 2017 tax cuts. I think the corporate rate lowering has been a tremendous boon for workers as it eliminated at least half of the double taxation for corporations. Corporations should pay 0% in taxes IMO.

I agree with this kind of reasoning in principle.

The issue is that the current political environment means that most republicans are not doing the right thing. only a tiny few tried to hold trump responsible for jan 6, and they have almost all been expelled from the party.

would democrats have done any better under an imagined “democratic trump”? maybe not. but i’d argue this doesn’t matter because we don’t face a democratic trump.

we are a product of both some inner personality, but also our surroundings. those surroundings are forcing many republicans to decide between the republic and their personal ambition. sadly they are mostly making the all too human choice of their personal ambition.

Except your Senator voted to acquit in the impeachment trial for Jan 6.

2021 storming of the United States Capitol[edit]

On May 28, 2021, Young voted against creating an independent commission to investigate the 2021 United States Capitol attack.[91]

Because threats on his life then, well, not as important as threats on his life now?

Why are you voting to re elect your senator when he took actions directly in opposition of this “requirement?”
