I don’t understand the mental gymnastics required to get over the idea that Trump was a viable candidate after Jan 6, but i think i can understand how people saw the years just before covid better than the years just after it. I think people are starting to see the current times as worse.

Why would the GOP be replaced? They’re quite happy with what he’s doing.
I don’t think this is true. Many are still quite happy with his brand of performative politics that has brought them into power, but none of them are actually happy with his accomplishments.
Repealing Roe vs Wade through SCOTUS and lowered taxes are big check marks, but these last two years will soon (in two months) be looked at as a huge wasted opportunity that the GOP won’t have again for at least 6 years.
They’ll keep voting for the GOP. They did it after Jan. 6th, they’ll do it again after Trump leaves.
From my perspective into some MAGA folk, they’re… boastful, but often uncomfortable.
A lot of them that bleated loudly about #SaveTheChildren and about Epstein + Hillary Clinton will state that they hate human trafficking and “something” should be done about it, but only have embarrassed silence when it comes to Republicans shielding Epstein accomplices. It’s something they don’t want to think about.
My experience is that there’s a big reliance on “but what about”. For the Epstein files, in particular, a response I’ve gotten several times is “Well, Biden didn’t release them”.

Missouri rejected a couple ballot initiatives 80/20 and 83/17 last month that Kehoe, Hawley, and Schmitt were all supporting. Those are massive losses in a solidly red state. Republican power grabs and catering to the wealthy is at the point where its become obvious to everyone but those deep inside the echo chambers. Nothing in this country with official party support loses by those kinds of margins, and their response was basically to blame special interests and bring it back again in the future. I am not sure stirring up the usual culture war BS is going to just distract people back into their corners.
Do not underestimate the collective stupidity of American voters.
