Tariffs almost fully passing through now.
Other recent studies have made similar findings about the hit to Americans from tariffs. A report by Germany’s Kiel Institute last month found a tariff pass-through rate of 96 per cent, while a January study by the National Bureau of Economic Research put the figure at 94 per cent.
A paper last week from the non-partisan Tax Foundation think-tank found that the tariffs amounted to an average tax increase on US households of $1,000 in 2025 and $1,300 in 2026.
Kinda makes sense that the share borne by companies should follow a decay curve.
They can’t immediately pass on all the cost and price above competitors, but they can all inch up their prices as competitors do. Similar concept to gas stations, but they jump up and inch down.
I wonder if the real benefit of the tariffs wasn’t the enormous power it gave trump because he could choose what to tax, and what not, based on his personal preference. From that (his) perspective, it may be a huge success.
That is pretty much it. Has nothing to do with M’ing.A.G.A." I think his pocketbook, in the form of offshore banking accounts, is getting filled.
I read that Ford had to take a hit on earnings because of the tariffs they, not other countries, paid.
Going to be interesting to see what happens during the WC this year in the US.
European tourists are “voting with their wallets” and cancelling their holidays to the US, the head of America’s tourist industry has warned after visitor numbers slumped in the wake of President Trump’s return to the White House.
The number of international arrivals to the US dropped by 5.4 per cent in 2025 compared with the previous year.
“Based on the survey information, the anecdotal information, there are people who want to send the US a message. They want to vote with their wallet. I guess my response to that is we understand that. If people want to send a message to the United States, that’s their right to do, their choice to do,” said Geoff Freeman, the president of the US Travel Association.
The head of the US tourist board blames the president…
Hope his resume is up to date.
On the upside, the National Parks might be less busy.
americans won’t care bc that would mean tickets were available. but i’d prefer they attend and bring signage
Hastertt should probably be fired and get a job flipping burgers at McDonalds as that seems to be all he’s qualified for based on his comments. Which probably means Trump will make him head of Economic Policy or something equally stupid.
Hey, YOU try keeping a job in this administration!
Mid-size US companies taking the brunt of the tariffs (as expected)
JP Morgan Analysis
This next opinion survery (Pew) shows the Trump-driven reality distortion field going on in the US pretty clearly:
It will be interesting to see what happens now. I predict little change. Trump will continue randomly threatening to impose tariffs on countries.
Who gets the refunds on what has been collected? Will his administration even listen to this?
Probably guarantees a strike on Iran this weekend, to distract.
