We currently have negligible EV car production in Canada so there is no sacrifice in letting the Chinese EVs in. Would much rather see that than spending billions in subsidies to US car makers for minimal jobs

I have been assured that since America can produce coffee, we don’t need foreign coffee.
I’ve heard people make proposals they thought were serious that would result in most of Hawaii being used just for coffee.

I don’t think it’s the EV market in particular they’re protect so much as the car market in general. If their cars are as cheap as I’m hearing, they’d hurt North America manufacturers a ton where they’re so much cheaper and they’ve already given up on making cars due to profit margins.
With all these trips and meetings, it seems like it. Poilievre’s claiming he’s doing nothing. Negotiations don’t happen instantaneously.

The ad will be carried in the US during the first game of the World Series tonight so that should excite Trump further. There is no misrepresentation of Reagan’s view of tariffs so happy the ad is not being pulled.
Reagan is increasingly a RINO in the lexicon of the modern Republican party. Although he shared certain ideals with the modern party, he also seemed pretty damn patriotic and intelligent. Not welcome traits today.
I’m not sure if this ad will do much anymore. Reagan also made immigrants into citizens.
The Ontario Premier who commissioned the ad is an old time conservative so is a Reagan fan. I think he is hoping to appeal to that segment of the Republican Party. The ad also tries to be educational but that approach may not work on MAGA types.

Your awkward and uncomfortable truths are valid in Canada as well. I believe that any periods in recent history of fiscal conservatism, the liberals have been running the country. Conservatives just spend money.

They both spend money like drunken sailors, though sometimes on different things, but only the liberals make some attempt to try and pay for it.
It’s simple. Canada is not buckling in the talks to get a bad trade deal the way that other countries have. Just wish those other countries had pushed back more.
