Trump Assassination Attempt

IFYP. It was already going to be a messy 4 months.

This election will be won by whoever can get their supporters to show up and vote. This will get Trump’s base to show up and vote.

If Biden steps aside, Kamala I think can get the democratic base to show up.

Lots of Americans aren’t ready for a black female president, and most of them are voting for Trump over Biden anyway so who cares.

Here comes the mess.

At least the press will be distracted from focusing so much on Biden’s frailties for a news cycle or two.

This event might trigger a series of other crazy events and increase the chaos around Trump, which frankly is quite a turn off for many undecided voters. So I am not ready to concede that this is a big political boost for Trump.

This will energize his base and fuel the conspiracy theory nuts on both sides.

However, it’s still a bit less than four months until election day. That’s an eternity in American politics.

It energizes his base, but also changes back from a referendum on Biden’s age and inflation to a referendum about Trump.

Yeah. Anyone in rural PA who is bored of elections right now is going to see that perfect image pasted all over the damn place.

Even without a full on conspiracy-- even if the shooter is just a normal person who (like all of us) is disgusted at another Trump presidency-- this is a platter for any guy that hungers for Civil War, terrorism, and unrest.

So all of the conspiracy theories have begun. I will wait 2 days before trying to figure out what to believe.

Current stories have the shooter as a registered Republican. Trump cut by flying glass, not a bullet. SS finding the guy right after he fired, did they know he was there? Was it all planned by Rs? Too much noise to get real news yet.

In this timeline I’m guessing the conspiracy theories will make JFK look normal.

More memorializing already occurring.

I think reports that the shooter was a registered Republican and someone who made a small contribution to Act Blue! are likely true, although confusing to some of the masses.

In a discussion elsewhere, I’ve already had to point out that I’ve registered to vote in Republican primaries, despite definitely NOT being a Republican, much less a Trump supporter.

Not that you have to vote to be a Trump supporter (or any political supporter), but given that the shooter is 20 he hasn’t voted in any presidential election.

The ActBlue donation seems like it may have been from a different person with the same name (there are 3 in the county, city on donation was different, donation would have been when the shooter was under 18 and thus not legal). Being a registered Republican seems fairly confirmed, but doesn’t mean much to me. Ultimately you need to be mentally ill to do something like this.

Yeah, party registration often has more to do with local politics. I’m registered as a Democrat even though I lean Republican. That’s because the primaries are the main election where I live - Democrats will always win the main election. I’d rather have a voice in who the Dem candidate is.

Mrs. H, who is not prone to conspiracy theories, thinks that between Trump’s last words before the shooting started + his fist-raising after, this was orchestrated.

I had been wondering if we finally had proof of the possibility of time-travel, but it looks like that’s not panning out.

My wife said the same thing.

Could be a way of boosting the poll numbers

That’s just nonsense.

They wouldn’t have let someone with a loaded gun actually get a shot off if it were staged.
