Triathlon Thread

Interesting. I read that the head shouldn’t be fully submerged (too much drag) but also not looking too far forward (where the head is out of alignment with the spine). The forehead sounds about right. They also said it can vary with different swimmers, so it’s worth doing some experimentation.

Did better on day 2 of swimming. Have a decent time (for me) on the pull sets, so my technique isn’t too off.

Form is coming back together nicely. Did 350 yards more today than last week and doubt that my stamina can actually improve that rapidly.

Added an extra 100 yards today, although I think from better turns rather than anything else. Still, I’m going to claim that regaining fitness is easier than gaining it originally.

Does dancing count as running practice? Because once the weather improves, biking is part of my regular life, so then I would be set for the swim, bike, dance triathlon.

I have found that in spite of not running for several months, I can can go out and run 3-5 miles without any trouble. Some part of this is likely a carryover fitness level as I do walk regularly now where in the past I may have not done that, but also, there is an experience component of appropriate pacing that becomes more ingrained over time.

There’s an element of age as well. It took me about 8 months of running 2 - 3 - 4 miles at a time, then something just hit me (lost enough weight, semi-sober). Then I started upping the miles and felt good.

I remember when I was training for an IM (even the two HIM that I did) I got this feeling to work out every minute that I could. I knew sleep was coming soon enough to rest. The Youtube video above said the same thing. Working out this much was addicting, feel awesome, and empowering (to me, and many other training in these amounts of time) but devastating to anything else in your life. I understand why these ultra athletes don’t care about anything but themselves, working out, eating, and sleeping.
