Let? I had to stop them from closing it. Oh so nice of them to “let” me put it up there when there was room
That’s you calling me an asshole. Its fine. Your opinion of me is meaningless
The flight attendant looked like they are bad with customer service that they couldnt keep the overhead open for me to stuff my coat up there.
Oh, I thought that was under the seat.
Im fine waiting until the end since i had a backpack up there, but apparently lucy thinks its just fine that the flight attendant shut the overhead after i said numerous times that i wanted to put my coat up there when the others were done and somehow im the asshole
Separate note that even if i didn’t have a backpack the coat would have to wait until the end just for them to slam them all shut and thus id get no overhead space at all
I don’t understand the issue with shutting the bins. They reopen the bins all the time. Customers reopen the bins all the time. Couldn’t you just reopen the bin your backpack was in and shove your coat around it? That’s what I’ve done when I had a small carry-on and wanted to stow my coat. I waited until the end, opened the bin to see if there was still room, and then I shoved it in around my bag.
Other people put things in that bin and there wasn’t room. I needed a different one
I’m flying Flair airlines shortly. Saved 40% on the flight, but, wish me luck nothing goes horribly wrong, apparently they are more cancel prone than even most budget airlines.
Ive also never had an airline lose my luggage and its guaranteed that i will be uncomfortable sitting on my coat
If you care so damn much about those soa papers and your drugs and are oh so scared they will lose your luggage you probably shouldn’t fly basic economy where you’re often forced to gate check. Seems like common sense but cheap gonna cheap
I don’t bring anything I can’t fit under the seat for this reason - a book bag and a purse. I’ve had luggage miss connections before and it’s so stressful. So I only fly airlines where I can pick my seat in advance, so I don’t have to anxiously check in 24 hours before to ensure a spot early enough to avoid the carryon check in dance.
Flying just sucks, from the time I leave for the airport until the moment I get back into my own bed.
I will wish you luck.
My SIL flew Flair in August (Vancouver-Toronto return). No problem on the outbound flight but, after an all-day wait at Pearson, he was told his return flight was cancelled. Flair told him they could rebook him two weeks later or take a refund. He took the refund as he needed to be back to work the next day. However his last minute fare on Air Canada cost $1k versus the $150 he paid on Flair.
These new budget airlines are a bit of a gamble but this August was a terrible time to fly out of Toronto so hopefully Flair has its act together by now. Would be interested to hear how it goes for you.
I’ve never been forced to gate check. As you point out, i can afford to pay for status to avoid that. But a lot of people are, and it’s a huge inconvenience and can be worse than just an inconvenience.
I flew Spirit once, and that convinced me that i didn’t want to fly budget airlines.
Then dont fly, problem solved
Ive gate checked before and checked bags before and never had a problem.
You realize that you’re tempting fate by making such statements.
My wife’s had mis-connected luggage before, one instance of which took three days to resolve.
And then there are the busted connections, where you get stuck someplace overnight, unexpectedly. There’s a reason you want to at least have a change of clothes and at least minimal toiletries in your carry-on…
i never flew spirit because i’m intelligent.
so, you were fabricating this story about being too cheap to fly anything above basic economy rendering all these exams to be lost in flight?
No, when i fly for work, I’m required to fly the cheapest class. And because i was required to carry on my exams, my employer did pay the carry-on bag fee on Spirit. Other times I’ve been one of those annoying people clustering around the gate to board at the very start of my boarding group.
Most of my flying is on my own dime. And on my own dime i upgrade to more space and get earlier boarding thrown in.
I’ve never been forced to gate check a bag.
But lots of people are. It’s a real problem that can have very negative consequences. I’m careful to use that space efficiently, so as many people as possible can stow their bags.
I’ve intentionally checked bags when i have more than fits in carry on. I’ve had lots of issues with lost luggage, but i always have a change of clothes and toiletries in carryon. I’ve also considered voluntarily gate-checking when I’m going home, and it’s less critical. But i ask where the luggage will be returned, and it’s usually at baggage check. If it’s going to make me wait at baggage check, i generally decline. But I’ve sometimes gate checked when I’m flying home so someone else who really needs their crap isn’t forced to gate check.
How much are these upgrades you pass on when flying for your company?
