Today I learned

Back when I used to watch law shows on tv (Judge Wapner People’s Court with Doug Llewellan or L.A. Law, e.g.) the attorneys would always object that something was circumstantial and the judge would usually sustain that objection…but maybe I’m misremembering.

Ooh, that one I knew…and for a civil trial the standard is even lower-“beyond a preponderance of doubt “ or something like that.

I recently learned that mice don’t like the smell of peppermint oil. So if you spray it around the house, at entry points, they won’t come in. Better repellent than Garfield and you won’t have to make lasagna.

Last May and most of June, it rained and rained and rained here. Apparently, mice don’t like that and so they seek shelter inside your house. Aaarrrgghh!

I’m going to have my house hermetically sealed!

I think my previous courtroom info was also determined by People’s Court, as well as Night Court, so I’d previously been under the impression that circumstantial evidence didn’t have much weight to it. Apparently, the key is whether the inference based on circumstantial evidence is common sense.

I wish there was a good approximation of when the jury will deliver a verdict. The prosecution said that the estimate of 1 day of deliberation per week of testimony isn’t that accurate. The defense didn’t bother to challenge several of the charges in closing arguments, so I’m expecting those will be quickly decided by the jury.

Criminal: beyond reasonable doubt
Civil: preponderance of evidence

Beyond the shadow of a doubt is not a legal term

Circumstantial evidence is permitted but the defense attorney can argue reasonable doubt.

Don’t even talk to me about mice. One has taken up residence in our bbq. I have baited a trap for six days, and it sets the trap off and eats the bait.

So I got a live trap from Amazon. Hopefully that gets it.

We had some success catching rats with the Owltra trap that lures them into an elctrocution chamber and zaps them

OWLTRA OW-7 in-/Outdoor Electric Rodent Trap, Instant Kill Mouse & Rat Zapper with Waterproof Cover, Sound & Light Alarm, and Batteries or USB Power Source, Waterproof Grade IPX4, Black Amazon.com

Just fire up the bbq. He either leaves or you get a free snack!

France leads the world in per capita butter consumption. That’s not too surprising. The quantity was to me though.

8.2kg per capita. Coming in second: Denmark at 6.4kg.

Come on USA, time to throw down on more moon waffles!

I’ve seen some people in click bait videos dump bricks of butter into big cooking pots as part of some culinary monstrosity. :-1:

Anybody who has seen the Chef Reactions commentary videos knows what I’m talking about.

I love Chef Reactions. Especially at the end, where no matter how bad it is he says something like “mmm… 1.3/10. I’d try it.”

“Jarlick”

And there are some things in this world that deserve “0/10, would not try.”

This éclair is over 1 million calories. 25 pounds of butter per square inch. Covered with chocolate so dark that light cannot escape its surface.

The scampi could have been so much better with less time invested if the person had had any forethought about it. Which I guess is the point of a lot of the original videos, trying to generate hate views.
