Today I learned

Thank you for the explanation - I was wondering if this was a Catholic and/or Canadian thing. Kinda surprised I hadn’t heard of it, but maybe it just not something they do in my neck of the woods.

(.. and I will admit, it didn’t help I was thinking of the “Easter basket” as the ones with the chocolate bunnies and other Easter candy.)

Some parents will put in chocolate and/or candy for the kiddly winks: my parents did when my sister and I were younger!!! :yum:

Japan is much bigger than I thought.

A good and interesting size representation, but shifted just a little south of equivalent. Tip of northern island of Hokkaido is slightly above northernmost extent of Vermont, and tip of southernmost of the 5 main islands, Kyushu, lines up with FL’s northernmost border. Nashville slightly north of Tokyo.

We always learned in school that Japan was about the size of California.

Japan: 145,882 sq mi
Cali: 163,696 sq mi

So … close, but Japan is smaller.

I was wondering why Hokkaido reminded me of Vermont.

That may be true but when I saw this map they were specifically comparing it to the east coast of the US not suggesting exactly where it was latitudinally.

Was that from they guy that does maps that make you reconsider things?

But I think longitudinally it is close to accurate

and when I say “application” i only mean it in the way a mathematician means it, not that it will solve anything in the real world…

I wonder if you could breed them to take on skin tones to wrap around human limbs. Could be a big hit at parties.

or like a chameleon, they just match whatever they are on

Maybe they already do that…
