Today I learned

I’m a fan of Fong’s Pizza when I get into the home office.

Today I realized, rather than learned, but still hard to comprehend.

Discussing the current problems in Northern Ireland today with a few people.

And apparently,

The planters of Ulster (a region in Northern Ireland) settled in Appalachia. So you have a whole bunch of people there descended from the Scot-Irish folks from Ulster.

Had no idea they had settled that region of the US.

I forget whether I learned about that in middle school American History class, or as a result of being taught about the origins of Appalachian accents/dialects of American English.

I did.
I read a book several years ago called " American Nations."

Was that the one that ties higher violent crime to cultures that emphasize personal honor?

Maybe.

Those infernal Irish are everywhere!

I have a Swift solution for that.

WTF?!

…and I have been told there are some groups of very conservative Jews who will not drink the water bc shrimp is not on the kosher menu

How is that word pronounced?

cope-pods

co-pe-pods

co-pep-ods

Is it a long, short or silent ‘e’?

Sea life and tap water reminded me of this fun fact I learned a few years ago.

I was just about to post the very same sentiment.

I just learned that there is a sports called Futsal. It’s sorta, kinda like indoor soccer but not really.

There’s a new Futsal sports center opening here next week. The center will also have volleyball and pickleball.
