Today I learned

Was wondering why I had not seen any then, but it has this note: “Numbering moved to the 000AAA1 format in March 2026. These plates have so far been observed only in the northern part of the state; central and southern regions are still issuing 9Yx plates.”

I’m betting there’s a powerful anti-Apogee Boost Motor community within the California DMV.

Really? Your tl;dr explanation is longer than the original statement. Come on, do better.

I recently saw where a college softball player stepped out of the batters box when she heard the National Anthem being played at the start of another game. She took off her batting helmet and put it over her heart. The ump looked at her and said something and she responded and he then took off his mask and helmet and turned to the other field as well and the game stopped while the anthem played on the other field.

TIL: I’m older than the Heimlich maneuver.

The best pizza in the world, Chicago Deep Dish Pizza, was invented by a Texan.

Former University of Texas Longhorns offensive lineman Ike Sewell was the inventer and one of the founders of Pizzeria Uno, which ignited the craze in the 1940’s.

Ha! You need to get out more.

While I appreciate Chicago’s deep dish casseroles, canonically the best pizza is New Haven style apizza.

Detroit style is my go-to.
I prefer pizza that does not sag when I pick up a slice.

Not really a casserole, since there is the “crust” and the rest of the ingredients atop.
A casserole is all of its ingredients mixed top to bottom.
Chicago-Style is just a shit-load of bread. It’s good, but a bit of overkill IMO.

If it ain’t Little Caesar’s, it’s trash.

I’m quite happy that we have a place in town making this, it’s good stuff.

Oh, I don’t mind a NY slice. Or, dare I say it, Saint Louis style pizza.

Sorry that you have been so hungry that you’d eat that to survive.
I’m at the age and stage where I can simply not eat if I don’t see anything I like on a menu.

Deep dish is good, but as a Chicagoan, I still think “the Chicago pizza” is the “tavern style”. I had Gino’s East yesterday, though.

Give me some Imo’s pizza, toasted rav, Ted Drewes frozen custard, I’m set. Good deal.

the only thing on this list worth mentioning is the custard, my dude.

OK, now I’m intrigued. I try to get through St Louis as quickly as safely possible but now there seems to be a reason why I should stop.

Probably should keep my foot on the accelerator through East St Louis though -

Bernardi suggested East St. Louis, Illinois because it was filled with old buildings “that exist in New York now, and [that] have that seedy run-down quality” that the team was looking for. East St. Louis, sitting across the Mississippi River from the more prosperous St. Louis, Missouri, had entire neighborhoods burned out in 1976 during a massive urban fire. Hill said in an interview, “block after block was burnt-out rubble. In some places, there was absolutely nothing, so that you could see three and four blocks away.”

Had never heard of this place.

There is a small Island (Gruinard) off the coast of Scotland that was the site of biological weapons testing (anthrax) during WWII.

It was quarantined for almost 50 years because the anthrax spores were everywhere (and they can live for centuries).

Due to public appeal, the Island was decontaminated in the 90s and you can actually visit it now.
