Thats right. Its mostly specialty finance firms offering this option.
My SIL asked me about them recently. Hadnāt heard of them since I was a young man. They were quite popular in my youth but i donāt recall ever running into them by the time I was looking to buy a house.
Problem with the one SIL was talking about was that it was for only about 2/3rds the value of the house but it had a fairly reasonable rate compared to what was available currently. I explained that unless he had enough of a DP to pay the 1/3rd more he would be taking out a second. Ultimately the total monthly payment was less than what he would have to pay on a full price with modest DP mortgage, he probably could only afford the assumed mortgage at this point.

There is a 10ā x 6ā section of the Berlin wall behind the urinals in a menās room at the Main Street Station hotel and casino in Las Vegas. As I was going to the restroom yesterday after breakfast, a bunch of guys were asking the men going in to wait a few minutes while they cleared the bathroom so the women in their group could go in and see this piece of history. I gladly obliged.

I went to a local wing joint for the first time a couple of months ago and they had signs advertising shots of Malort. Iād never heard of it, had to google, guess I havenāt spent enough time in Chicago.
itās only showed up for me in the category of āyou gotta have this, itās terrible!ā and then you do a shot or half shot or whatever andā¦agree with the person who introduced it. the following year at same event, repeat that story.

Reading a Harperās article today on the current affordability crisis in US daycare and just found out that Nixon in 1971 blocked a bill that would have established a federally subsidized universal system of childcare for three and four year olds. The bill had easily passed the Senate and the House but Nixon vetoed it because he felt it encouraged the communal raising of children over raising them at home. Nothing new about Republican family values, eh?
Instead Nixon approved a bill that expanded dependent care tax deductions but it did not expand daycare availability or lower the cost.
Had not realized the US had come this close to universal daycare. The original push had come during the Johnson Administration, of course. It eerily echoes the childcare debate in Canada where Conservatives suggested tax credits to help address the daycare crisis whereas the Liberals promoted (and introduced) subsidized daycare spots.
