Thread where actuaries diagnosis medical issues

Ew… no. I cannot imagine borrowing Afrin from my closest family member, let alone a complete stranger!

Random story: When I was in Africa they told us that people don’t really French kiss there. They think swapping spit is icky. I mean they obviously have sex (there were kids everywhere) but French kissing was considered icky.

I really REALLY wanted to ask if they had oral sex but it didn’t seem like the right topic to bring up on a church mission trip. I remain curious though.

(No idea how local / widespread the “French kissing is icky” feeling was either.)

If I had to choose one over the other, no contest.

we kiss on the mouth but still cough down our sleeves

Weird swelling is just a side effect of a medication I’m on, according to the dr.

The issue is that you can become addicted. Not addicted as in craving the drug, but there can be a substantial “rebound” if you use it too much. And everyone is a little different. My husband doesn’t use Afrin at all, because he gets rebound problems after two days, and it only works for him for a few hours anyway. Whereas I get about 16-20 hours of relief from one dose, and haven’t had significant rebound after using it for 2-3 days. I LOVE Afrin. But I typically only use it once a day for 2-3 days over the course of a cold.

I think it doesn’t say because the phase of a cold that involves really swollen nasal tissue is usually only a few days, and you shouldn’t use it more than 3 days (ymmv) in that time frame. By the time you catch your next cold, you should be thoroughly recovered from having used it. I use sudafed and a netti pot once the worst of the swelling is down.

Well, I’ve always found French kissing to be icky, and like oral sex. So there’s one data point.

Yeah, French kissing is weird to me. Like, why would I want someone’s slimy muscle writhing around in my mouth? Regular kissing is fine. Oral sex is fine. Swapping spit at best weird and often gross.

Well this is news.

More data points - while I’m not germy and am indifferent to spit swapping, I do often require teeth brushing immediately prior to a make out session. I already don’t like inhaling people’s breath, but when it’s not minty fresh breath it’s even worse.

I initially thought this extreme itching on my back was a dog allergy because it always happened when i was long term visiting a friend with a dog. Well now im at my parents house where there are no dogs and my back is itching like crazy. Very annoying

You’re not wearing anything from when you were visiting are you? Or anything washed there that got dog fur stuck on the inside?

Anything i wore there has since been washed at my parent’s house so it seems unlikely to be linked to that dog

Agree given that information.

Next potential culprit … laundry detergent & softener?

My husband is very bothered by fabric softeners, including dryer sheets, as well as many detergents. I use ALL and the extra rinse feature on the washer which helps a lot. And dryer balls with essential oils in the dryer.

White vinegar instead of fabric softener, although ideally put it right in the machine during the rinse cycle… not the dispenser.

It sounds like my mother and sister have something similar. they don’t know what it is either.

in looking in my perimenopause group, itching is a really common symptom. but it seems they freaking attribute every symptom they have to perimenopause.

google tells me that’s an actual cause of itching. this is annoying. weird that it’s only my back. hopefuly it doesn’t decide to spread.

when during this perimenopause do i get fat? that’s where i put my foot down.

Not everyone gets fat. I know skinny old ladies.

I’ve always been fat so it’s hard to blame it on perimenopause.

yeah, not everyone gets fat, but it’s pretty common for the weight to be distributed in less flattering ways even if you don’t get fat. In looking at post-menopausal women, the weight starts going in their stomach a lot more.

The tired disease hasn’t shown itself lately. Hopefully it doesn’t come back. Wondering if it really was recurrent Epstein Barr. I have no real explanation for that.

Has anyone ever gotten a vaccine and your arm still hurts 2 months later? I decided I wanted the hpv vaccine, so I got the first dose February 14. It still hurts now. It started out as minor pain that I barely noticed and wasn’t sure if the vaccine caused it, then a month later I was in horrible pain. When it was horrible, I decided it was definitely the vaccine. It felt like a vaccine injury. Now it’s back to minor pain and hopefully it’s going to just fade away.

It’s a 3 dose series over the course of 6 months. I’m supposed to get the 2nd dose middle of this month or later. So I’m terrified and unsure I want to do it.

Talk to your Dr. about it. It could be a known side effect that may or may not be serious. But I don’t think injection cite soreness is supposed to last more then a few days at most.

Though it is possible they accidentally hit a nerve with the injection and damaged it. My wife one time had that problem with a Novacane injection, messed up that side of her mouth for close to 6 months.
