Thread where actuaries diagnosis medical issues

Consider this good news. It generally takes more explanation when something is abnormal and bad.

If you can formulate a set of questions to submit in the portal you might get a faster response.

I don’t understand the results enough to even know how to ask a question.

I do know someone who I think does this stuff (she is a tech in the cardiology dept of her hospital) so I might ask her.

And yeah, I don’t think it’s terrible. After researching the reason I was referred (a slightly out of range number on a pulmonary function test) I think my doctor was being way over conservative in referring me. I just want to understand the stuff that’s out of range.

I had something out of range on an EKG that turned out to be meaningless.

My friend said some of the numbers were not out of range by her hospital’s standards. The others I questioned were “normal for hypertension” but not terrible. She said not to worry.

had a virtual visit with my rheumatologist to discuss my test results from blood tests i took 3 months ago. as expected, they showed nothing. which, i would have been pretty pissed off if they showed something and i had to wait 3 months to find out. not even sure why i needed a virtual visit just to be told “all good”. She was late for the virtual visit and i called them to which they set up another virtual visit cause she was running late. so my total wait time was an hour just sitting in front of my computer. i suppose this nonsense is so she gets paid, but this seemed really unncessary and a waste of my time.

as i was talking to her and told her my new theory on EBV, she said to talk to my pcp because EBV is not part of her specialty. i said my pcp sucks though and asked her if she has a recommendation for a new one. she highly recommended one. i looked up said person. they specialize in “geriatric care” :grimacing: :older_adult: I mean, i’m old, but I didn’t think I’m yet at geriatric age!!!

You may not be old yet, but if they are good, you could be set for a long time.

I dealt with several doctors specializing in geriatric care when I was my mom’s healthcare proxy. They tend to be really good. Their job is to look at the whole person, not just condition X, and they are good at finding interactions between different conditions that might not be obvious.

A geriatric specialist might not take you, because you may be too young for them to consider. But if they will take you, that’s a serious recommendation.

feeling terrible again. I was good for almost a week maybe and now back to terrible and it’s a BAD time at work to feel this bad. ugh :sob:

I feel almost okay in the morning and then it gets worse and worse AND WORSE.

on top of that, my period is all over the place. I don’t think it’s related as it’s been normal at other times when I had this tired disease and it started going wacky on saturday when I felt good.

I NEED A DAMN DIAGNOSIS. I CAN’T GO ON THIS WAY!

guys, if i bleed to death, miss me. my perimenopause group seems to say that bleeding randomly is just a thing at my age. a thing that can lead to anemia. it can stop about now though please.

being female fucking sucks.

It is a thing, could be due to hormones or fibroids but if not they will want to do an endometrial biopsy, and you already know you don’t want that.

When I had random weird bleeding I calculated my chance of cancer to be 1 in 80,000. My biopsy was negative.

If you feel dizzy and/or it lasts more than 10 days, seek treatment. My doctor gave me megestrol to stop it. Later I went on thyroid meds and the craziness has not returned.

If you tend to be anemic maybe go ahead and take some iron and/or eat a steak or something.

In reading my perimenopause group I’ve seen it last as much as 8 months. I’m thinking, how did you not bleed to death at that point? It’s apparently incredibly common at my age to bleed due to hormones.

The last time this happened, it lasted 16 days, but it was light on the extra days. Seems to be getting heavier rather than lighter.

I had an ultrasound in April when this last happened. That showed I think a small fibroid and some other small thing, neither of which explained the bleeding. Didn’t show any signs of cancer. Yeah, I really doubt this is cancer. I have breast cancer in my family, not endometrial cancer.

I’m gonna order some iron pills online. I’m at my parent’s house and have some in my apartment that I didn’t bring. I’ve never been anemic, but this can cause it.

The first time I had weird bleeding I went to a doctor who merely said that if it doesn’t resolve in 3 months to get an ultrasound. It resolved, so I didn’t do the ultrasound. The next time it happened I went to a nurse practitioner who ordered an ultrasound immediately rather than wait. and that wasn’t enough and she wanted to do an endometrial biopsy on top of that. I really liked that first doctor who didn’t want to do invasive tests, but she is not a regular gyn and is a surgeon and as a regular gyn it’s a long wait to get an appointment with her. She also did blood tests to say I’m perimenopausal and that’s likely what caused it. At my age I don’t think you really need a blood test to tell you that.

The gyn I saw in July said if I will do the endometrial biopsy she can put me out for it and instead do something more conclusive (which sounds worse, but I’d be out for it). Rather not do that either, but it’s preferable to anything I’m awake for. For now I am putting it off and hoping it fucking stops again.

can they give me this megestrol stuff without a biopsy? I really don’t want a biopsy.

I also can’t ask my mother about her experience at all as she was thrown into early menopause at my age from cancer treatment. Glad I am not going that route yet.

Megestrol is basically progesterone. I think they can give it to you but they might still want a biopsy.

Yeah, all the women in my immediate family except my little sister and me had a hysterectomy way before my age so no family experience with menopause. It’s been annoying bc I should be done by now. And maybe I am but I won’t know for like 8 more months. And there have been a lot of starts and stops.

mrs f is in perimenopause phase. worried about fibroids as the only rational explanation for the bleeding. it wipes her out. for days. no rhyme or reason for when it comes or how long it stays. (well, at least it is 28 or more days apart, but still)

I think hormones fluctuating can cause weird bleeding, not just fibroids.

I was perimenopausal with unpredictable periods until my late 50s.
