Thread where actuaries diagnosis medical issues

I this the sort of thing where you’re supposed to look at something else for a while when watching porn?

Is it fair to measure BP under that kind of stress?

My wife have a similar thing to this. Her doctor has a note in her file that her normal BP is pretty low… good to hear she’s not a ghost

When does a dentist take your blood pressure?

Some dentists do. I’ve only had it when I go to bigger chain dentists, not independent dentists.

I’m getting super sensitive to the cold and no matter how much I sleep at night, I still need an afternoon nap. Time to get my bloodwork redone!! :older_man:

You might want to consider getting a sleep study done…your breathing might stop while you’re sleeping. The tests are at-home these days (well, nights for most people) so you can sleep in the comfort and routine of your own home.

I need to do a sleep study. I don’t remember a time in my adult life where I didn’t wake up tired. I don’t get enough sleep, I know, but enough sleep for me is around 11-12 hours a night.

Don’t think I have apnea. My partner says I don’t snore and my breathing seems normal to him. But I want to rule it out. It’s a long shot, but maybe they can figure out what’s wrong with me. 11-12 hours a night is great but I don’t have time for that, especially with a family at home.

I went to a DO once and was not impressed…which is not to say it was a bad experience…I just didn’t feel like I ended up getting the care that I needed…lack of followup from the DO.

I cannot stress enough how n=1. It’s not him; it’s me.

I have been to one PCP, since I left my pediatrician

I don’t have a PCP. I’ve had teams of specialists as needed. And if I get a sinus infection or the like, I just go to a walk-in clinic. :woman_shrugging:

The health insurance I switched to now has a high deductible/OOP but walk-in/routine care is fully covered if you go to one of their clinics.

Our healthcare system is so fucking fucked up.

I’ve got stop-loss drug coverage (it’s all we really need in Canada). 100% coverage, $4500/year deductible. I think we pay about $25/month/person.
I’m not even really sure I need it since the province has a socialized drug plan that kicks in after drug expenses exceed (IIRC) 4% of income. At the price, I can’t be bothered giving it enough headspace to figure out if it’s worthwhile or not,I just keep the coverage.

For all intents and purposes, my PCP is a PA. Anything that is out of her wheelhouse would be something referred to a specialist, regardless of whether my PCP were a PA or an MD.

Revising poll options. Thanks @Maphistos_Sidekick for reminding me of PA’s. Added another option based on additional feedback.

Credential of the Doctor you see?
  • M.D.
  • D.O.
  • P.A.
  • N.P.
  • Whoever is available/assigned to me
  • I see 'em all!
  • I see 42 dead people

I forgot that many rural areas have this as their only option.

I’ve also added Nurse Practitioner as they can also do many prescriptions w/o the doctor’s sign off.

I do often go to the CVS minute clinic, which is staffed by a NP, for minor stuff. But I have a PCP, and he’s an MD.

I’m not in a rural area, but I have observed that in many medical practices around here, the MDs’ case loads are huge, and getting in to see “your” MD can be a challenge.

I think officially, on paper, my PCP is an MD. But except when she was out on maternity leave, I’m seen by the same PA and I’ve been content. But then again, despite some chronic health issues, my needs are pretty straightforward, except for the stuff handled by my cardiologist. Make sure I’m not dying too quickly, make sure my blood work isn’t out of whack, renew my prescriptions, stick a finger up my butt every so often, and my needs are met.

My wife has a long list of health issues, however. So, while she’ll be seen by whomever when something comes up, she is seen a few times a year by an MD who does well with “challenges”, even though getting times on his calendar is a pain.

My PCP is an MD, but if he’s busy I’ll see a NP he works with. My best friend is a DO, and after talking with him I wouldn’t have any issues seeing a DO.
