I was shocked, I knew that HR was doing a salary review. And my company is solid, they treat us really well, so I believed they’d do something. We just have the one Actuary, maybe HR lumped me in with some other group. No idea.

This should shave a couple of years off of retirement. Super happy about that.

Not cynical, my company is 7 years old and 2020 was the first year with positive EBIT, 2021 was great, financially. That’s part of this whole thing, the company is in a position now to reward people.

I don’t plan on increasing my use of hookers and blow with the raise, so I think my qx is still ok. This will genuinely let me retire earlier.

I’ve got a new job! Starts late April with a software company. Think “Customer Success” actuary - helping clients get all they can out of the platform.

Plus this is a non-US company, so the leave package is 4 weeks + holidays + sick days + day off for birthday. Screw that whole “two weeks until you’ve been here 10 years” crap.

Excited!
