The covid virgins club

I would have been shocked if it was but have been proven wrong when it sounded like there was no way someone contracted covid with their recent interactions, so I was curious of the outcome.

I think that COVID would have been preferable to whatever mystery illness I had for a month and a half last year. I developed symptoms of some mystery extreme fatigue inducing something for a month and a half the same time someone else I know developed covid (likely delta) and she got better way faster than I did. Still no clue what that was and if it will come back.

My upstairs neighbor claims my symptoms were psycho sematic, but she can go to hell with that diagnosis.

I was just going to say… now I have to worry about having bronchitis… AND catching COVID.

exactly. I was terrified of catching Covid on top of whatever I had.

As far as I know I have never had it. I am a bit surprised, especially because over the past 5 months I have interacted in-person with a fairly large number of people, including being in some fairly large unmasked (and I would not be too surprised to find out included many unvaccinated) gatherings. It is an unfortunate, but IMO important, part of my current role.

I have had allergy symptoms, which are fairly common for me at this time of year, so have tested several times but always with a negative result. I have also tested because, while AFAIK I have not had direct exposure, we had a few cases in the office.

Of those I know who have contracted COVID over the past 2 months, none have had any serious or long lasting symptoms.

Results came in late Sunday from a Thursday am test (cross post annoyed thoughts). Only known exposure was 2 Fridays ago. I am very thankful my only symptoms have been a slight amount of congestion ( comparable to what I get from dry winter air overnight ) and one day I had a patchy sore throat, localized to drainage overnight. Had my friend not told me he tested positive, I wouldn’t have gone to the effort to get tested.

Well I’m sorry to welcome you to the Covid cooties club, but glad it’s been mild so far. Hope it stays mild and runs its course quickly.

I’m going ice fishing on Sunday with 4 random strangers (Uwaterloo students). 1.5 hours in a truck, all day in a small hut, 1.5 hours home. Biggest risk I’ve taken in years.
Caught some grief from my spouse over this risky plan, but eff it. I’m going ice fishing. (which sounds more adversarial with my spouse than it was. THey disapproved, I emphasized that I appreciate the risks, but prepared to take the risk in exchange for the reward).

4 random strangers sounds like a bigger concern than the COVID.

LOl, I suppose.
I try and take a some UWaterloo undergrads fishing or hunting a few times a year. Generally what happens is I can’t get any of my friends lined up so I say to heck with it, I’m going anyway.
I had my son in law lined up to go ice fishing, then he bailed because stupid football. So I jump on the UWaterloo university subreddit and ask if anyone wants to come along. I always have more responses than I have spots.
And the students are generally people who’ve never gone and don’t have the opportunity. So it’s a lot of fun watching them catch fish, they get pretty excited.
Same thing this time, the four students that are coming haven’t fished before. So when they start reeling in the perch it’ll be a scream. I’m also bringing along cooking gear and some fries, I’m going to cook a shore-lunch of perch and chips for everyone.
Here’s a pick from when I took a UW student hunting last week. Student took the picture, my son is in the orange hat, and I’m the wee tiny dot way in the middle of the field.:

We got a rabbit that day.

Also, it’s a whole new venue for my dad jokes. Get halfway to the lake and yell 'We forgot the boat!" and everyone turns around and looks out the back window.

Here’s one of the student’s responses from the last time I did this:

Am one of the lucky four! Went together with my friend. Expected: getting our bodies dumped into the lake Reality: homemade chocolate chip cookies, meeting two amazing people, an absolutely awesome new experience (was my first time fishing on a boat!), and enough perch to reduce next week’s food budget

My dad believed in developing character when I was young. Especially as a teen.

So, one especially cold winter, he decided to teach me ice fishing. He'd done it a few times as a kid and thought that I should have the same "character-building" experience.

We get to our "spot" and Dad has me engage in the character-building activity of auguring the hole. We bait our hooks, drop our lines, and wait for the fish to bite.

Now, I've done regular fishing for several years by this stage in my life; so I know what a fish biting on the line felt like. After 30 minutes of zero results, we notice another guy show up, setting up his hole about 100 feet from our hole.

Less than 5 minutes after he dropped his line, he pulls out a good sized trout. About 8 minutes later, he's pulling out his second. We still haven't even had a nibble on our lines.

So my dad tells to go on over ask if they guy is willing to share any tips. Now, I know that many male adults are far more willing to part with some "secret knowledge" to a youth than a fellow adult competitor. So I go over.

"Excuse me, sir. My dad and I have been here nearly an hour without any results; yet I see that you have two fish in less than 15 minutes. Do mind sharing a tip that might help us be more successful?"

"[mumble-mumble-mumblemumble-mumble]"

"I'm sorry sir, I didn't understand that. Could you please repeat that?"

"[Mumble-MUMble-mumblemumble-MUMBLE]"

"My apologies, sir. That was somehow worse. It sounds as if you have something in your mouth that you're trying to talk around."

The gentleman proceeded to spit a mass of wriggling stuff out of his mouth. "You've got to keep your worms warm."

[/joke]

I always thought that Canada tilted left politically but I didn’t realize it was also literally! :rimshot:

That doesn’t sound too bad. Surprised you contracted covid despite wearing an n95 mask.

Still a member. Had some friends over on Saturday who are very out and about but no issues it seems. Will likely be out and about myself next week once or twice, will check back in then.

Same here. We’ve been staying home a lot more while Omicron does its thing, but I think on Saturday we are going to cut loose and hit the arcade, maybe a movie. Definitely need a haircut, ugh.

I polled my sunday school this morning and noted 10 out of 16 people (62.5%) have been exposed to COVID, and a couple just recovered from it for the second time. The wife said she didn’t even realize she had COVID until her husband was confirmed positive and then she got tested, so they weren’t suffering too badly the second time around.

That sounds similar to my second round of COVID – I barely noticed the symptoms, and wouldn’t have even thought to test but-for my wife’s case.

I’m still a member of the club.

Are there any ā€œCOVID incelsā€ in this club, or is everyone a member by choice and preference?
