Joe Biden is the first president in American history for whom I wish a speedy recovery from COVID.

When trump got covid there were no vaccines, and no covid-specific anti-virals. There was an unproven antibody treatment, and supportive care. And Trump is a lot fatter and in much worse shape than Biden, and about the same age. so his underlying risk is higher.
um, okay?
Still in the club. Tested negative today. Teen daughter still testing positive but she is doing a great job of isolating in her room. We are lucky she has her own bathroom. So far the rest of the family has avoided it.
When we had it at my house, there was some benefit to us all getting it over with at once. The timing of it would not disrupt any vacation plans and in theory put us all in a better spot for summer travel.
A friend locked himself away from his partner for more than a week only to get it the next trip out of town and it cut that trip short and they had to cancel plans the following weekend.
But that is where we are now. Hopefully we soon get to a point where isolation and canceling plans is no longer a thing.
There’s some benefit to a couple day spread so you’re not all going through the worst of it at the same time imo.
Yes, that’s true. My wording was poor, it was more over the course of a week or so.
Dun dun dunnnnn
I guess I’m a sitting duck then
i don’t really need an article to tell me i’m at higher risk of contracting the virus due to not having had it.
WSJ is running a puff piece on the collective lack of COVID virginity, observing that most Americans have had COVID by now, even if they aren’t aware of it:
https://www.wsj.com/articles/think-youve-never-had-covid-19-think-again-11658741403
i don’t feel like figuring out how to read that for free, but fairly certain the WSJ is wrong and i simply never had it. my immune system isn’t just super awesome great that everyone in my family had covid with symptoms, but somehow i didn’t.
i think it’s a combination of luck when i did do something social in not being exposed and the fact that i’m less social than most people and i work from home.
for some it’s luck and they wound up finally getting it recently. i didn’t.
i also think my days without covid are numbered. gonna fly in a few weeks.
I’d check if I could get the antibody test for prior infection for $20 but I’m not curious enough to know otherwise.
You know how to prevent this from happening, right?
Just stand up!
For some reason that will remain unexplained, I have about 75 rapid tests in my house.
There wasn’t anything in the article dramatic enough to merit flirting with violating copyright to relay the article…but it did acknowledge that there are still some true COVID virgins out there, and some researchers are looking into the extent to which genetics and/or past encounters with other coronaviruses may play a role.
But the article also points out that up to 40% of all COVID cases are asymptomatic, inviting the theory that many/most people who believe themselves to be COVID virgins have probably had it without realizing it.
I wouldn’t have known about my second case if my wife’s positive test result hadn’t driven me to test. And then I had something a few days after I know I was exposed at the end of June, but never generated a positive test.
I’ll be taking another test in a couple of days, given just how much time I spent on planes last week. I’m feeling a little rough, but I think that’s probably a reflection of experiencing too many time zones in too short a period of time, and my getting old…and not our favorite virus.
my genetics tell me that i’d have symptoms, but it won’t be serious based on my immediate family members who all had it other than me.
the president just got covid after over 2 years of the pandemic. there are legit covid virgins out there who were just lucky.
We have a ton too. We did use a bunch due to exposures tho.
Well be using 2-4 in the next couple of days. We’ve just returned from one of the riskier things I’ve done since the pandemic (decent sized convention) and i want to test before visiting anyone else.
