The website in general is probably just on their company’s “non-essential for work” naughty list.
I’m not sure, we just have some website blocker which somewhat inconsistently determines which pages are too exciting for work hours. Clearly GoActuary has yet to make it into the crosshairs though
That does raise an interesting thought though… with working from home arguably we’ve taken a big step toward the point of work being more focused on what is produced and less on the appearance of being present, so it would seem which websites you visit are less of a concern when how many minutes you spent actually working between 8am and 5pm matters less than how much you actually did… although I suppose you’d still want some blocks just to avoid security issues and what not…
I will point out that TAL generally posts both bleeped and un-bleeped versions of their shows online. On the Apple podcast store they generally just post the un-bleeped version. Just FYI.
Interesting story - thanks for sharing. I’ve quite liked Lewis’ books that I’ve read. I’ll check out the podcast they mentioned.
The real dilemma for companies is whether or not to make people go into the office after this ordeal because
- they realize people are not doing work at home
- they realize people are not doing work in the office either
well hopefully they’re doing work somewhere otherwise the simplest solution would seem to be layoffs
Shhhh!
For all that some companies love to lock down web browsing and other technological distractions, my impression has always been that greatest source of wasted time is simply two people running into each other and proceeding to gab about random nonsense for an hour.
Having everyone work from home should eliminate a lot of that, so if I’m right then productivity should actually be way up.
The beauty of a lot of the AO diversions games was that I did a lot of the playing in Excel - so it could look like I was working…
It would appear the fat lady has sung.

Going to be the most ironic thing ever when Mitch McConnell is labeled a RINO by Trumpkins.
And, as predicted, Trump amplifies them
The Daily Mail article picks up tweets from:
Michael Flynn
Lin Wood
Marjorie Taylor Greene (pro Qanon House member-elect)
Sebastian Gorka
Mark Levin
Nicholas Fuentes
This is terrible in terms of certain people being more convinced the election was stolen.
BUT, it is good news for those of us hoping the Trump Cult will split itself away from the rest of the Republican party.

Trump’s allies slam Mitch McConnell for congratulating Biden https://mol.im/a/9057747 via
. Mitch, 75,000,000 VOTES, a record for a sitting President (by a lot). Too soon to give up. Republican Party must finally learn to fight. People are angry!
It’s going to be a race among Ted Cruz, Josh Hawley and Rand Paul to see who can object the fastest. There will be a dozen others who aren’t going to lead the objections in public but will eagerly help push it in private.
How about Ron Johnson?
I think it’s certain they will lose the vote and earn the anger of most of the Senate, including the Speaker. The only value is points with Trump and the Trumpkins. So it’s very important that it’s public. Private support doesn’t count.
Definitely will be about getting re-elected, based on each Rep/Sen constituencies and, in the case of the Senate, whether re-election is in 2022.
Gaining/Keeping favor with Trump is only about Trump’s hold on their constituencies, whether a simple maligning tweet will be all it takes to lose re-election.
Moscow Ron isn’t going to be the first to object, but he’ll back up whoever does go first. That way, he can weasel out with “I thought it was important that we allow objection, I was just supporting discourse” and not get labeled as the instigator.
Won’t matter. He’s a fucking POS who shouldn’t represent his neighborhood at a meeting of senile traitorous bastards even if he’s eminently qualified to be there.
Josh Hawley beat the others to the punch, he tweeted that he is going to object.
Hawley 2024
Like I said: it will be a race between him, Cruz and Paul.
Now the question is whether Cruz will offer to make the argument to the rest of the Senate on Hawley’s behalf?
